Cup of Jones - December 27, 2018

I hope you all are having a lovely holiday break. Despite being on vacation, we've still been talking with our set designer. We have several mockups now of how our new stage will look, along with blueprints of where the walls, soundproofing, and lighting grid will be located for maximum flexibility. We're trying to save as much as we can for other parts of the office, but the largest percentage of our January studio budget will go towards the big set (that we'll use for podcasts, reactions, events, etc.) The streaming space will get more love as time goes on, but some of the ideas we have for it might have to wait until later in the year. It'll still be cozy as heck, so no worries there.

I know that the studio might still feel like a dream at this point for all of you, so here are some photos proving that the space actually does exist. Above is the first time anyone other than Ian or myself got to check it out. I also shot some video that day of their first reactions that we'll post later on. Also attached are some of the boys hanging in the hallway that connects all the rooms, and Bloodworth testing the height of the room that will become our main stage.

I've been thinking about the studio a lot over the break. I even had a weird dream where it was finished and full of random people. Some I used to work with, or go to high school with. They were all hanging around, working and playing video games, like this is what happens in that space every day. I'm looking forward to getting home and finalizing plans.

It's likely that GOTYs and the next Hall of Greats will take place in the garage. One last party before the big unveiling. We're planning to pre-record our GOTY deliberations this year, but still keep the discussion as raw as possible. We'll see how that's received after streaming them last year. While in Florida I've been catching up with Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Pokémon Let's Go, Smash Bros Ultimate, Fortnite, and the final DLC for Spider-man. Looking forward to a spirited debate!

Happy New Year, everyone! I'll be back with a live episode next Thursday. If you've already posted a question some time during the last two weeks, consider holding your next comment until next week so I can get through all the holiday chatter in a reasonable amount of time.

- Brandon

Hey Jones, I became a patron shortly after E3 last year and spent the next several months catching up on all of these 1-on-1 sessions with your audience to better understand EZA and its history and to make sure I wasn't repeating a question. For me, the opportunity to go to these "investor meetings" and get insight into the business of EZA was a big pull for why I became a patron. Anyhow, I finally caught up near the end of the year and thought that 2019 would be a good time to begin asking some questions of my own. So, from your perspective, what is EZA’s competitive advantage/value proposition? What makes EZA different or special when compared to other streamers/content creators/channels/etc. I have my own opinions on what those might be, but I'd love to know what you have identified and what your group is doing to take advantage of those strengths. Thanks! L&R

One of the benefits of Patreon is that if people are already giving to other creators on this platform, it's an easier stretch to extend that generosity to EZA than it might be if it required a separate account on a separate platform. I joined Patreon to support EZA, but now I support 4 other creators as well and I can't say I would be doing that if not for Patreon and my initial investment with these guys.

Brandon, please tell me that you don't ACTUALLY believe that T2 doesn't hold up??

Hey Jones, Regarding the comment about how your youtube naming convention and compared your channel to Girlfriend Reviews who has been a surprise hit that came out of nowhere. The channel subscriber count has grown fast and she has started a patreon. Lets compare their patreon to yours. You have 8000+ patrons, they have less than 200. EZA is a crowdfunded company, not a youtube channel. EZA should be focusing on growing their patreon, not youtube. Their should be more exclusive episodes on patreon then 42. Becoming a Patron is cheap and it costs only $1. On to my question/idea. I've been asking you to grow your website by adding features and etc and you're thinking is it worth it. Patreon roughly takes %5 off your cut. I know Brent has the means to turn easyallies.com into a website that accepts funds. You could be making %5 more money per month(approx. $15K/month) that could be going into the website (I'm not saying that you spend all that money in a website). There are some people that don't/can't support you guys through patreon and I think this could maybe get more people to join us. Imagine a website where you login and can sift to your liking. For Example, you want to find content that only has Bloodworth in it. I know leaving Patreon could be scary and probably take months but just wanted to throw that idea around. Sorry for the long post.

Cant wait to see the reaction video!

Chris Brabbs

Congratulations! Also, please tell me I'm not the only one to read this in Jones' voice!

The deliberations were very long last year, but still quite enjoyable. I'm happy to see what you do this time with editing.

Super3dcow

*raises a cup "To a fantastic new year and many more to come."

Can't wait for GOTYs! And yeah, as minimal editing as possible on the deliberations please. This is the content I live for from you guys.

You guys look so happy in those pictures! L&R Not sure why this happened, but you can have it.

Mac

Sometimes it looks cool.

You hate to see it folks :D , Gotta cover those beautiful off-white cream walls with acoustic foam!

Would love to see a timelapse of stills from every group stream/podcast showing how the garage transformed from Jones mancave to proper EZA studio-like space.

Łukasz Wizła

Emotions!!! Haha can we have party hats for the last garage stream?? Just one big blowout before we christen the new space?

HOLY COW The picture "Studio_hall.jpg" looks like Blood has the most EPIC BEARD in existence.

Snowcone Guy

Happy New Year and thanks a bunch for showing us the pictures!

Brandon K Gann

How tall is Blood jeeze lol

dem extra high ceilings

Can't access the photos on my phone. :(

Steven Beaumont

We'll just have to save our goty rants for CoJ and Twitter instead of twitch chat. Although doing it prerecorded and running the video for live twitch viewing would be fun. Or YouTube premier

VGJunky

Happy Holidays to you all! Looking forward to the next chapter in 2019.
