Days Gone Review

There was a moment in my playthrough of Days Gone that I don't mention in this review but I think represents my time with the game. A quest giver was talking to me when I found a recording in a laboratory that began playing through the DualShock controller. There was a stat-boosting injector nearby that I grabbed immediately after, and Deacon said something while he was using it. So there were three lines of dialogue being read on top of each other, not because of a glitch, but because it's just possible to encounter that combination.
That's Days Gone. A game that despite my love for its story, world, motorcycle, weapons, and characters, repeatedly presented holes in the way everything is presented. None of this is game-breaking, just annoying, and it ruins the immersion. Immersion is a big reason why I love open-world games, so it's a bummer when stuff pulls me out of them. If you're already signed up for Days Gone, I think you're going to enjoy it. I've maxed out on all I can do in the campaign, and I must admit I miss riding around Oregon. I hope Bend gets to make another, because they're definitely on to something.

I listened to the review on my phone while running errands and I had no idea what the final score was, I guessed based on what I heard it was a 7.5. When I got home and watched the review I was right on the money. This basically sounds like Mad Max all over again. If you dig scavenging while leveling up your Bike and surviving in a bleak world while living an interesting storyline. This sounds like the game for me. Swimming in 7's baby.

Your score perfectly matches the impressions from the Gaming press, right now Days Gone has a MetaCritic score of 72 (from 77 critics). Not a bad game, but not a great one either. Which is fine, since not every exclusive game will be a masterpiece, not even Nintendo manages that and they're the best when it comes to exclusives. Still looking forward to playing it, since I also love Open-World games. L & R

Right now though, I'm just weary of this specific kind of open-worlder. Take me away from all the cinematics and RPG stats and waypoints and whatnot. Give me Intelligent Qube 2.
