Reaction Shots discussion topic: Scores!

Music music music!

This month we're talking about film scores, as in music not how well they do on Rotten Tomatoes!

I will also be joined by two fabulous guests!  Daniel James is a composer for films and video games alike, and returning favorite Matthew Walden will bring his encyclopedic knowledge and unique perspective to this topic!  We're going up a week late this month so we've got a little time to talk about this stuff this time!

What is your favorite film score?

What do the best scores have in common?

We'll discuss the differences between score, diegetic (or source) music, and licensed music but how important do you think the interplay between these elements is?

How can good licensed music choices bolster a film's score?

What are creative uses of licensed music and diegetic music?

Who are your favorite composers?

What unique composition techniques have you heard of?

We'll speak to our guests about what goes into scoring a film, but what would you like to know?

How much music is too much?  How much is too little?

How can a score inform how you feel without TELLING you how to feel?

Can a composer plagiarize from themselves?

Can a score be good if it doesn't have synths in it?!?!?!?!
