These late gen sales figures bring good tidings and bad omens, and Joy Con drift is officially a new thing to complain about.

Comments

In the loot mechanics discussion, in the time vs money point, I think there is something being missed here. When a game asks for your time it's beacuse the developers think that this is the best way to make a great game, or at least what they think is a great game. When money gets involved, the reasoning is they are making the game worse just to make people spend money. They are just trying to manipulate people, worsen the experience, and draw the most money from the most fragile people possible. It's the opposite when they think about time.

The season of Jane Austen would be amazing! Have you seen Pride and Prejudice and Zombies?

So about the Kojima hate, there is people in a Discord server I’m in the who is saying Survive is a better game than 5 and I want to punch them in the face when said.

Just a quick audio comment: Can the volume of the "God Mic" be brought up? When Ian is interjecting it's hard to hear and gets muddled by the other speakers whose mics are louder. I've noticed it for a while now. <3<3

Thanks for adding my question in regards of Death Stranding. I'll try to include interesting questions from time to time. I'll play the game, however I think I have my right to be confused on to what to expect on a $60 game, which I also can't recommend to others. But I'm with all of you Allies, I'm expecting to be surprised in the weirdest way possible. Ps: my joycon also had a drift problem a while ago. Somehow it disappeared. But I know at least 4 people with that issue in Costa Rica. Cheers!

Correction: Kyle implied that the control stick calibration was added in a patch, and indicates that Nintendo is aware of JoyCon drift. It has actually been in the Switch setting since launch, so I don’t think it has anything to do with the rise in JoyCon drift.

Purely anecdotal, but I sent back my Joy-Con under warranty and the clerk at the post office knew what was in the box because of the number of person sending back their joy-con.

Good to see Huber back. We missed you, man! Hope your family is hanging in there. Much love from all of us.

Nimbus

Astral Chain being placed in the top 5 seems criminal. When Huber rattled off like 8 games and saying they are all basically the same thing that's exactly how I feel from what I've seen. I also have to agree with Damiani.

my second early-access Easy Allies podcast........this is my week-end watch so i'm not gonna watch earlier then that

For the Allies that struggle with the tension between a bad game releasing early and a good game releasing late, let me add a third threat--the game not releasing at all. Many companies choose to release an unpolished game because they believe an extra year wouldn't add much value. Take Marvel Ultimate Alliance--more time would've given us more costumes and whatnot, but would that game have ever scored above an 8.5? On the flip side, many games never make it out of development hell. Sometimes they lack solid direction (e.g., Anthem); sometimes there's too much publisher interference (e.g., MGS5?). If the publisher has plenty of patience, you might get a Last Guardian. If not, the game disappears. Because every dollar spent on a bad project could be spent on a better one. Without that tension, you get a situation like Star Citizen--which is fine if the 'investors' are a bunch of people who don't mind blowing money on the promise of digital starships. But if the investors are the people managing our 401ks, they have a right to question why a game promised years ago is still years from release. No company has to go public. The devs at Studio MDHR made personal sacrifices to keep their work going, and Cuphead showed no artistic compromise. They secured funding with Microsoft without surrendering ownership of their company. But if a dev does seek public money, it owes its shareholders regular, reliable information. Capitalism obviously has its issues, but it is one of the more reliable ways to direct and monitor economic value. When private watchdogs and the SEC are doing their job, they help people like us invest our money safely in value-generating companies--instead of burying our gold in the back yard, where it does no dev any good. That's the ideal, anyway, and like Ian, I hope more companies appreciate the long-term value of polished games with well-planned, no-crunch development.

Same here. In my little corner of NC, of the five couples/families I know with a Switch, every single one has had a drift issue. The issue has factored into my decision to get Fire Emblem. If I can't comfortably move units in handheld mode, the game might not be worth $60 to me.

Correction: taking down the pirates airship in MegaMan Legends when you're on the boat is cooler.

Yes Ben what you are describing is joycon drift... and what Blood was saying about the joycon dift only affecting a small percentage of people... all of my friends including me have joycon drift I'm thinking its widespread. My theory is that it effects people who mostly play in handheld mode.

P.T. and the reveal of Silent Hills is way cooler than this Fortnite event.
