There are a BUNCH of great HDR games, but I think the problem is that you need specific hardware to utilize it. Consumers don't care about HDR if they can't use it, or don't understand it, and 4k only came into its stride in the last couple years- if you bought a 4k tv at the beginning you likely didn't have HDR. Plus, it become a matter of "Do I want Dolby Vision? Is HDR10 okay? What the difference between HDR10 and HDR10+? Do I need a different HDMI cable?" plus, most people are good with their 1080p tv's- why would they upgrade? I LOVE HDR and agree that it makes a huge difference in the game, but when it comes to the average person, they don't have a reason to care.

the part about HDR was so uninformed. There's a lot of examples of great HDR this gen : Horizon Zero Dawn, Monster Hunter World, Division 2, Destiny 2, Forza Horizon 4... I get it if you don't have a good display, or if you're playing on sub-par hdr games (FF15 for example has very basic hdr), but its been the most significant tech advancement of this generation. And you don't need to be a tech nerd, just watch some Digital Foundry videos about hdr games. Theres plenty of examples to understand how it's definitely game changing visually. I'm guessing the Ray Tracing once it arrives will be taken the same since it's not gonna be in every game. "Not really worked did it" -_-

RE: Smart Delivery. I think y'all missed the point on this a little bit in this instance it's more relating to the files of each game. Right now when you have an Xbox one X, you manually select to download additional 4K content (texture packs and stuff) so with this system they're saying it will automatically know which files TO download and which files NOT to based on what console you have. (because they will have essentially 3/4 different consoles each game will play on, but yes "crossbuy" is also the parent of the system)

Oh yeah! In regards to DOA and hair color... For DOA this is a continuation of the trend. I think that one game they had on steam had something absurd like a couple hundred bikini costumes or something. A quick google search says "DOA 5 has over $1000 bucks in dlc" but it's all bikinis and trivially different stuff. Street Fighter is also drowning in DLC but at least a costume from Dark Stalkers shows way more effort than something like hair color. It's just sadly the way it is.

The thing about raytracing vs HDR is that HDR requires 1) a high quality TV and 2) messing with a bunch of settings. Raytracing just makes things look better, straight up, regardless of output device. And not just with reflective objects; true raytracing is fundamentally about how a (virtual) scene is "lit", and I think we all appreciate how important lighting is to visual appearance.

“Smart Delivery” is just marketing for what both Sony and Microsoft have been doing with Pro and X. Sony insisted games be playable on all platforms and Microsoft followed but also focused on backwards compatibility. MS even added some super sampling and up-scaling on certain games. Why Jones is so pessimistic about Sony not continuing what they’ve been doing is beyond me. PS4 is the only Sony console to not offer backwards compatibility. The current systems and PS5 will have the same architecture and instruction set, so backwards compatibility (or Smart Delivery) is a given.
