We’ve Decided to Cancel EZX

After intense deliberation and with a heavy heart we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel EZX. This was an event we put a lot of time and resources into, and it was the best opportunity all year to connect with the people that make our jobs possible, so we did not make this call lightly. This means we will not be attending Disneyland on Saturday, hosting our livestream at the Hilton on Sunday, or meeting at the park on Monday. If we are able to have a similar event at another time we will consider it then, but for now it seems irresponsible to host something that could expose our community to a virus that isn't fully understood and has an escalating number of cases.

We are aware that several of you will be financially affected by this, and we apologize for not making this call sooner. Just a few days ago we were planning to attend similar events that are also now cancelled, and given the unpredictable severity of the evolving situation we were conflicted as to what would be the best course of action for our own, much smaller, celebration.

That’s what EZX was supposed to be. A party with our fans. Since we’re unable to do that we want to give you the next best thing. Sunday (3/22) to Friday (3/27) we’re going to be streaming 8 hours per day, noon to 8 PM PT. We’re finalizing the schedule now, but the week-long marathon will include extended playthroughs of games we’ve talked about for a while, Weekly Hunts and Dreams Lovers in their original time slots, and plenty of Animal Crossing.

We know this is not a perfect substitute for plans you may have cleared your schedule for, and invested heavily in. We encourage you to mention that an event you were traveling for was canceled due to coronavirus and request refunds for travel and lodging. We have heard some people received credit or refunds, though some have not. If you are unable to cancel travel plans other community members may still be planning on attending Disneyland on Saturday.

We regret the inconvenience this will cause those that were looking forward to spending EZX with us in person. We need to pick the safest option for ourselves and our community at this time. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

This is an incredibly ignorant and selfish thing to say when we now have close to 10.000 confirmed deaths. While I agree that you don't help anyone by freaking out completely, cancelling big events is the only correct, and responsible, choice here. Each big event could potentially endanger or even end someone's life and it's absolutely baffling to me that there are still people out there speaking as irresponsibly as you are. Obviously I don't want you, or anyone really, to lose someone dear to them to the virus but it's probably the only thing that would cause some people to finally wake up and treat this whole situation with the amount of healthy respect it deserves.

Bryden

We're just around the corner from the crisis that's happening in Lombardy and Iran. This was the right call, and I hope as many people as possible can pull through this safely.

Yet another unpopular opinion incoming, go ahead and hate me more. I'm just going to go ahead and say that you're adding to the ridiculous overreaction that's happening across the world. Everyone who thinks this is the correct desicion is just paranoid. Let me be clear, there's no way I was going to make it to this thing in the first place, but I am continuing with my plans to visit Japan in the coming months. The reaction to this virus is the most ridiculous thing I've witnessed. To practice great hygiene strategies and be safe in public is a given but cancelling events is so dumb and I personally hope this puts the nail in the coffin for E3. 2020 is going to look really stupid after all this.

Mac

Good choice, thanks for letting us know.

Mumble Mumbleton

Stream Idea for the celebration week: "VANQUISH" PlayStation 4 Pro, full play through (6-9 hours).

Tegan Combatti

Im so sorry guys... But its okay, really.. It's totally understandable, and we love you all- So don't worry! Ok, you guys are the best, and take care.

Tegan Combatti

Hi, Jess. I'm sorry for your troubles and I know you really wanted to meet the Allies. I hope you get better. For whatever it's worth, I hope you can attend next year or the next and when you do, it's mandatory that you, Amanda and/or Ian do some songs together. Wishing you the best and hoping you feel better. L & R

Daniel Ribeiro

I would like to add a comment to this, because even though I too backed out now, I wasn't going to originally. One of the reasons I did was for fear of backlash from the "You did the right thing" "better safe than sorry" crowd, who even though we like to talk Love and Respect can sometimes forget it in the comments sections when they feel their feelings have been stepped on by someone's personal decisions. I would like to say that there were MANY factors I took into account and it was an EXTREMELY emotional HEARTWRENCHING decision to cancel my plans (I am in fact in tears now) but I have my own reasons and other people have their reasons for keeping their plans in tact. We as a community should not shame them for wanting to make use of the services they paid for with their hard earned money and spend time with people they miss or have been longing to meet because an unfortunate situation and shitty timing has caused the cancellation of a larger event. Thats my piece <3<3

JessieBlu

As a person planning to attend the event, it being my first time meeting anyone related to the Easy Allies, and first time visiting LA and Disneyland, I am saddened by this decision. I do think it is the right decision. If I was in your position, I would do the same. I would've probably criticized you if you didn't cancel it. But I'm still sad. This is a lose-lose situation for me, and probably for you as well. Again, wish everyone the best.

Xeno

I respect your decision. Health always takes precedence over everything else. Thank you for the early warning, and making this decision more than a week before the actual event. This makes it easier to get refunds for reservations. Hopefully everyone gets refunds for non-refundable purchases as well due to this. May everyone stay healthy.

Xeno

As I mentioned in the other post, everyone's health and safety is definitely the most important thing. That being said, I hope you guys stream Mario Party.

Yui

Some people are not gonna agree with your decision. I personally very much do and think it's for the best. But: even if some don't agree with it, I think it's still a respectable decision that nobody can give you shit for. I am living in Switzerland and we are not hit that bad by corona, and even here the government said "Hey, try to not go to work by train during rush hour if you can". So an international event like yours is probably wise to cancel

L&R stay healthy everyone and be safe

Chun Lau

As long as you're ok, no problem

Thank you for putting the health of not only yourselves but also EZA fans as well first. Can't wait for the week of long streams.

Karl Williams

I'm coming next year. You made the right choice.

Patrick Gallagher

I think you did the right thing, After COVID-19 is done, there will be enough opportunities for such events. L&R Fabian

Fabian Winkler

Looking forward to the stream week!

Robert

This was the best course of action. Thank you for making the responsible thing. This is why I love Easy Allies. The health and safety of everyone should always come first. To the people who had already invested money, please try to get refunds if possible. If that's not an option and you decide to travel, I wish you all the best. L & R

Daniel Ribeiro

The right decision. I feel for those who are burned financially by this. L&R.

Andrew Chalmers

Mango, I think this is the most informed and intelligent information I have received about the virus, since its outbreak. Thanks for that dude, it is very helpful. Stay safe friend. <3

Jeffrey Tessar

8 hrs a day? Holy shit. You guys aren't kidding when you say you want to make it up to us. Isn't that extreme? Can't say I am not looking forward to it however =D Well, we love you guys and I am personally glad you made the safe call.

Jeffrey Tessar

Great move

Rhys Simons

Yeah or maybe there is something else EZA can do for them

Tanner Hoisington

As a nurse, and a fan, cancelling for safety reasons and replacing with 8 hour streams is the right move. It would be terrible if we had a hand in spreading this disease. You can help stop the spread of this disease by washing your hands, avoiding large concentration of people, and quarantine yourself if you have a flu symptoms.

You guys did the right thing. Health is the most important thing we have. L&R

Dr. Dank

Unfortunate, but ultimately the correct call. Stay safe, there is always next time. L&R

Delissi

I am truly sorry for the difficult decision yall had to make. My heart will go out to those financially as well as emotionally affected all around. Much love and much respect folks.

Danni-H4

Safety first. Thanks for the protectiveness.

Bennett M. Gastin III

It's honestly the right call. I'll just add for what it's worth since there seems to be a lot of misinformation out there about this having a low mortality rate. Preface: I am an anesthesiologist in Canada. The mortality rate of 2-3% seems low but is much higher than the flu (0.02% for reference). The main concern is it has an infection ratio close to 4. Meaning for every 1 person infected another 4 will also be infected. This is huge. When you get close to 3 you worry about global pandemics. This thing is profoundly infectious. It can stay infectious on surfaces at room temp for 9days and at 86F for up to 28 days based on research so far. It has a rate of roughly 10 % requiring ventilatory support in an ICU setting. Mix that with the infection rate and a busy city and you can very quickly overwhelm any first world healthcare system. This is the real deal and as a health care professional I am very worried for what is to come.

Mango

I too think this is the right call. Better safe than sorry! Also, the make-up streams are great, but please don't exhaust yourselves!

Nick Steiner

I fully understand and support this decision. I bought a ticket to a dance concert here in Australia at the end of March, together with a friend. That cost me $160 bucks. But I prefer to stay healthy so that cash is gone and I am okay with that. Health first!

LeeLore

I planned on attending, but this was a good call

Tbh it was gonna be a stretch for me to come at all, so it works out for me

My family is suffering from the flu right now. Even if it's not coronovirus (I hope), everyone is just getting super sick regardless and it sucks.

Chris Park

You guys 100% made the right call. L&R.

This is the correct choice.

Logan Young

Update: Hyatt agreed to refund me for my room because of the situation, made a note that the event I was attending was "EZX" My flight was through Alaska Airlines and they couldn't give me a refund but they did agree to waive the change/cancellation fee so I got all my money back as a credit to use later. So it is worth trying! If you mention the event was cancelled due to the coronavirus situation they will most likely try to work with you however they can.

Brittany Fuller

Yeah I think you guys made the right choice.

Rinder86

Keeping you in my thoughts! I hope you're able to get through the coming weeks, hopefully the EZA community can be a little spark of some positivity..... <3 <3 <3 <3

Kiraz

It's a pandemic! This was 100% the right move.

Raven Perez

Hey y’all who are financially affected with flights and hotels! Make a huge stink with people and get your attempts to cancel escalated. Most of the time with hotels, less with flights, there will be a possible way to cancel, especially with COVID-19. Good luck folks!

Tristan Gray

Just want to echo my support for this option. (Even as someone who can just drive up.) I think something this summer would exclude the people most affected by this, I figure most wouldn't be able to afford another trip.

Alec Church

I definitely understand why people would be upset, but giant corporate events are being cancelled so it really is best just to stay safe until it settles down.

Sare

Totally understandable. With there still being so many unknowns it's better to play it safe. Hopefully you can still have the event you planned in the future when it's safer.

James Anderson

A few of us are working on that through Twitter 👍

DaleBastion

I'm currently forced to work from home in Seattle right now. Doesn't always seem serious at the moment but I am glad that we are all currently being proactive to the situation as the alternative is much worse!

Stay safe and healthy guys. Glad you made this call

Dang, was expected but was still holding out hope it wouldn’t come to pass. Worked EZX into the middle of a longer trip, so I guess it’s time to figure out my backup

CapnKatz

You made the right call for sure. This Virus has impacted us all and this is just the beginning.

Mikehook1

Thanks guys, I think it was the right call to make. It's a bummer but it would have put a big damper on the event with the threat of exposure looming over everything. I look forward to the week of streams and am going to see if I can get any of my reservations refunded, if not I'll just have a week long vacation in Anaheim to look forward to! L&R

Brittany Fuller

Probably the right decision no matter how hard it is to make.

strawhatninja

This is really unfortunate, but the right call. I just really hope that companies are understanding and that refunds aren't a tedious process.

Chris Leroux

This is the right decision and tbh im heartened by the 40+ comments that are at WORST disappointed but understanding. Keep kickin ass EZA community.

100% the right call. L&R

Justin Greene

Chiming in from Northern Italy just to say you made the right choice, there'll be better and safer times! Avoid gatherings, stay safe and catch up on some games!

Hey guys, I'm a resident of Westchester County, New York. As you may be aware, we have also been greatly affected by this outbreak, so I completely empathize with your decision.

Daniel Schwartz

I know I'm disappointed but I know this is ultimately the right decision. Thanks for the transparency and doing what you can to make up for it. I'm still flying so if any other community members do any meet ups I'll be in :)

Totally understand. It stinks for those financially invested in coming, but health and safety should always be paramount. Looking forward to the streams. I’ve been begging Huber (quietly) to stream RE1 remake for ages, so that’s what I’m looking forward to most. :)

Eric Jackson

Reminds me of the Owl Turd Stolen Bike meme. Sucks for the people who booked travel and might just lose out on that cash and vacation time off, but I think 48 hours of extended streams, probably at least 40 more than we would've gotten otherwise will increase the total happiness among the community more than if the event had gone on as originally planned for the few able to attend.

MBUN

Better to be safe than sorry. Totally understandable. Love & Respect guys

Stay healthy everyone! Love & Respect!

Hey guys, totally understand and I know there will be both sides to the argument and I know it couldn't have been easy so I appreciate your position! Love and respect and hope everyone stays healthy

Other than weekly hunts will any of those games be multiplayer with the community? Maybe some Granblue Fantasy, SFV, Tekken, Fortnite, Forza, Counterstrike, etc?

Ehie Yovach

You're making the right call. This situation is out of your control and it continues to get worse. Everyone stay safe and healthy. Love & Respect.

Daniel Ray

Damn, this such a crap situation all around. It sucks that you've been going through some difficulties, but know that everyone has your back here. It's always okay to ask for support :)

Varun Kachhwaha

Could you do something in the back and like, do a small meet up with everyone that really had no other way to go and no refunds? Like, backdoor shaddy deals

I was afraid this would be the case, I'm travelling from Costa Rica and already had everything booked (with no refundable options selected :/), and I was looking forward to meeting you guys, particularly since I've been going through some pretty rough times and this was something I really hoped would help out. I don't blame you at all for the decision, it makes sense and is a responsible thing to do, but I'm obviously dissapointed. I don't think I'll have much luck changing the travel plans, and I at least have some plans afterwards, but saying that this is a bummer is putting it lightly.

Absolutely the right call IMO. I said on the other post, but would EZA consider fundraising for those who can't cancel their tickets? It would require someone to do some checks (ask for pics of tickets and check that the terms and conditions do in fact make them non-refundable) but if you can get a ballpark figure I'm sure the community would be happy to fundraise during the stream. I'm not someone who was going to be able to come anyway (flying from the UK to the US while self-employed is a bit much) but I'd be happy to donate to help anyone who's going to be stuck out of pocket. I've had bad experiences with budget airlines and non-refundable tickets so it's a pain I'm all too familiar with.

Haravikk

Perhaps the fans who are going to LA anyway as to not waste their tickets could organize something themselves on the EZA forums if only to make the best of a shitty situation?

Olf Himself

I honestly think it's probably the right decision and I applaud you for having the courage to make it, but my heart goes out to those people who are affected by this, it must be a real shitty feeling.

fuyunotabi

Good on you for not dragging out the decision even though it must have been tough. Looking forward to the massive marathon stream.

Olf Himself

Absolutely the best call. You guys are awesome! It would've been my first ever Easy Allies event, but safety first! Maybe another time. And I'm still travelling to Cali regardless. Just crossing our fingers and taking serious precautions as we do. Love and respect, all!

Absolutely understandable and the right call. Thank you for giving us some streams as a make-up that you absolutely don't have to make up to us. Easy A. Has always gone above and beyond. L&R Stay safe everyone.

Patrick Held

I wasn't going to attend, but if I had planned on it- I would have understood! Better to be cautious and mindful of the cost/benefit. Thanks for all you do, EZA!

Isaiah Matthews

Thank you for making the best decision and making up for it with this streaming extravaganza giving me so much hype I won't be able to sleep tonight. :P

Baircade

Tough call but I think the right call. I already cancelled my tickets this weekend. And even have a chance to maybe get partial refund on my non-refund ticket. Love the replacement streams. To me that’s over and beyond, but I shouldn’t be surprised with this crew. L&R

Greg Kettering

it sucks, but i get it. i will say that i hope instead of trying to hold a make up event later in the year you simply hold off until year 5, as many of us won't be able to afford another trip before then and holding an event we have no chance to attend because of this would make this all feel so much worse for a lot of us...

Esther Devil

I get it, but the real shame is losing all of the work you guys put in. I hope you can make something of it in the future. L&R

Tyler Travis

Thank you for the transparency and consideration given. Highly appreciate. Another time for all of us to meet will transpire. Till that time. L&R

Its the right call. Good decision guys.

Good call. L&R

Yep, saddened but not surprised. I'll be at Disneyland on Saturday and in LA in the days after, and reaching out to fellow Allies. Catch you all later. L&R

DaleBastion

Tough decision but completely understandable. I'm sure you'll put together some fun streams to make up for it.

2020 sucks so far. Unlucky to everyone affected by this.

Ibrahim Sozer

I'm more than okay with this, everyone stays safe and the streams sound lovely.

Jeremy Farbman

This must have been really hard for you since you’ve been planning for it for so long but know that we truly appreciate you looking out for your community and yourselves. L&R <3

K

Stay safe everyone. I know that was a tough decision to make. ❤️

Douglas Chomicz

I'll still show up. Playing video games alone in a hotel bar? It'll be the best party I've ever been to.

G the Finger

I know this sucks for people that already made plans, but it's the right call. To put it bluntly, shit is getting real, real quick out there! Stay safe peeps

44stars

Hopefully those who are disappointed will understand. This was the right decision, guys.

Ben Metal

Had a heart attack when my phone just said "it is with a heavy heart that we have..." thought you guys were disbanding.

Corrigall

Good on you guys. L&R

Matt Shay

Stay safe doods stock up on water and toilet paper L&R

This is a good decision. No regrets. I hope more people do the same. The response here in Canada is so slow and reactive. A few 100 dollars or lost reservations mean nothing if it causw grandfather or a close family member to become ill and gasp for breatha

Good call, L&R, will attend when it's safe for us all to party again!

Smart moves from smart doods. L&R

Sr101

You guys made the right call. L&R.

Gustavo

Stay safe. L&R

David Sobiegraj

Love it! Great decision! Stay safe Allies!
