Cup of Jones - January 4, 2021

It’s a new year full of new opportunities, but let’s not stress ourselves out just yet. I’m back doing live Cups, and I’m teaming up with Damiani for the Community Showcase at 2 PM PT today. While you’ll see other things return to their regular schedule in the coming weeks, we’re not back to 100% just yet. We still have just under two weeks left before we deliberate our GOTY picks, so that is still everyone’s #1 priority, and a few allies are still on break. But if the questions from the last few weeks are any indication, people are very curious about what 2021 looks like on our various channels, and I’m excited to get back to work.

Cup of Jones - January 4, 2021

Hi, Jones. Reposting my question from last week, I posted it before the time you collect them, but you must have collected them earlier. Which you've said sometimes you do, which is fine. Resposting because it's about Norbert and he deserves more love. Firstly, Happy new year!!! Secondly, this is both a personal and professional favor I'm asking: Please show more Norbert. The last and only editorial you did on Norbert was on April 10, 2018. I know showing him live might be very difficult, but you could film or take photos of Norbert and do a new editorial on him. From an animal lover... nay! From a Norbert lover to another. Let's kick-off 2021 the right way! L & R

Heya Jones, Um-hm. Yeah, no, that's fine. Let's do that. But what would Easy Allies consider the key to their relationship: the hobbies they pursue together, savings they accrue together, or looks they misconstrue together?

Mr. Jones, Any interest in splicing all the 2020 reviews into a single "Year in review" video? I don't know why, but when Huber said there was 50 something reviews for 2020 I couldn't help but want to see them all back to back in chronological order. I know I could do it myself, and probably will, but thought it was a relatively easy video to produce for some added content. Also, c'mon Jones.... You can't just tease that Speed just needs a few fixes to be perfect without telling us what they are. Could you share your thoughts on the next episode? Respectfully, Morgan Mohalla

Hi Jones! So how close are you to splitting up the community comments and community media? I was going to suggest making them their own tiers, but you would have no way of making people only do one of them in the month.

More of a pitch than a question for Hunting Huber Season 3: Guests. Bring in guests who have been on other EZA content to hunt Huber like Jessica Lynn Verdi, Jason Wishnov, HeyAsh, etc. A fun troll would be to bring Kyle back as a guest to hunt Huber again too. And since you're opening it up to people who aren't just the Allies you can call it Open Season.

Morning Jones, Idea for an opening bit, VIDEO GAME HEIST! People submit multiple choices to do a Heist. Each week you ask people to submit, Hacker, Smooth Operator, Cat Burglar, Driver, Safe Cracker, Brute and Mastermind. People also need to state why and you chose 3/4 for the panel to chose. The first week you ask for a Mastermind then ask for who they're stealing from and what, then so on an so forth. Thanks iboshow

Jones, don’t sleep on the Bow of Chiron in Hades

Dummy comment as I had to make an edit.

Hi Jones, I have not watch Cup of Jones in a long time, so sorry if my question is redundant. Do we have any updates on "Who's in my bathroom?" ? L&R Aurélien

Aurélien GRANIER

i feel like we should pester jones every cup of jones until he agrees. i need to see him play pokémon emerald

André Roda

Thanks for answering my Pokémon question! Even if it's not any time soon, I do seriously hope we'll see a new installment in the series. And the more I think about it, the more I feel like Huber would be your best bet for maximum fun. The student becomes the master and takes a student of his own to explore a new world in etc etc etc

Hi Jones, Thank you for your answer to my question about the silver linings. I just want to say that the reason I think Gaming Gladiators didn't quite land was that the prompt for the audience boiled down to: "name two characters". With a more complex prompt I think we would have gotten better answers from the community and I hope that any opening sections in the future take this into account. Also, I agree that sliver linings was very much welcome in 2020, and I appreciate all the positivity that you brought and continue bringing to the world. Love and Respect, Samuel

Love this idea!

Hey Jones! I'm assuming this is the spot to post this, but you mentioned in this week's episode about ideas for opening bits and whatnot and I just had an idea that tickled me a little bit. In the spirit of the new year, I thought a funny opener could be along the lines of "Which video game character would give up first on their new years resolutions." With Patron submitted characters and their resolutions they've made, then the panel could discuss what would be more likely. After having tons of time at work listening to old EZA podcasts, I personally found that the ones that got me the most were when the creativity of the patrons was used a la Glinny's Cauldron, or Santa's gaming advisory board. Anyway, just a thought I had as I try not to quit on my own resolutions - I bought Ring Fit Adventure and my resolution is to play through the whole story mode with legit exercise. Either way , if you don't like the idea, no hard feelings - just wanted to give you some of my perspective after listening to a bunch of old episodes in recent months! Also for the record I personally enjoyed the silver lining opener, it was hard to focus on positives this year and I enjoyed hearing the stories written in by patrons every week :) Cheers from Canada! Hey Brandon, hopefully you are having a lovely day. I liked your answer to the 5 JRPGs question. I definitely didn't expect to hear Fire Emblem, SMT and Persona, that was surprising. I did leave you a bait with mentioning Valkyria Chronicles specifically but you didn't go for it haha I hope through the years you manage to get to all those games eventually and I know I said you wouldn't have to think of it in a "what benefits would it have for EZA" but I would love to hear those impressions on Frametrap lol Anyway, time to get to my question. This is something that I have brought up twice before, so here is my third crack at it. Question: How do you feel about an "occasional game discussion: Future of _____" show. Now allow me to explain what I mean by that. In the past I've brought up ideas about having podcasts or shows focused on games before their release. I think this kind of speculative discussions could be fun and not only they would be an interesting way of seeing the expectations of allies for a game many months/years before release but in many cases it could be a way to see what are their hopes for certain genres or series, stuff that you guys normally don't talk about that much, unless there are specific headlines in the podcast. It was actually the discussion about Bioware and Mass Effect in the podcast after TGA that reminded me of how much I would love to see something like this. It felt like Ian (and maybe even Blood) still wanted to talk more about Bioware but understandably you had to keep the podcast going. So this is where my idea comes in. Basically if anyone among allies is interested in a certain game's or studio's future and they would like to grab one or two other allies who share the same interest and talk about it for an hour, they could use the "Occasional game discussion: Future of ______" show. Now I know allies are all quite busy (in this instance, I bet Ian and Blood might've not even had the time to do a show like that even if they did had the desire to do so), but that's why I don't think it should have any strict schedule and it only should be "occasional". If certain allies feel like doing that for any series/studio and they have the time, they can use this show to do it. And to be clear, this would be a podcast style show but not necessarily with the huge research and preparation that goes into making something like a retro or what Damiani does when he discusses the future of certain studios on Friend Code. To give an example with Mass Effect and Bioware from before, I'm envisioning it as more of a casual "Hey, Bioware just announced a new ME and showed a new CG teaser for DA4, we know Anthem and Mass Effect Andromeda weren't that good, so how do you guys feel about these new announcements and Bioware's future" type of discussion. And speaking of Damiani, I know he does this to some extent with some of the Friend Code episodes (and I really love those), but those are solely Nintendo focused (obviously) and Damiani is the only host of Friend Code so we don't get to see other allies do this. I know you might think that this could feel redundant since you guys discuss gaming news on the podcast, but not every ally is on every podcast so for instance maybe Ben or Brad wants to talk about Bioware and the new Mass Effect but they are not on the podcast that week. And also like I said with the Bioware discussion, at some point the podcast needs to continue and allies might have more to say about it and want to go into deeper, more speculative, discussion that isn't in the scope of a news podcast. Thank you for considering this if you do. L&R P.S: The name is awful I know lol. But it gets my point across :) P.S 2: Believe it or not, I didn't mean for this to turn into a wall of text. Sorry Brandon :)

Hey Mr. Jones! I really enjoyed your answer about your fictional Final Fantasy, but it’s back to my regular deluge of Business Questions! This week, I wanted to focus on the Love & Respect portion of the podcast. I want to put a disclaimer up front: NO, I am NOT asking the following to increase personal chances of having my submission be taken, but for other people. While I will always submit a question or game a week, I’ve noticed you’ll take (roughly) two great questions/podcasts for each game, time permitting. And I know you’ve said games are best as either/ors or multiple choice instead of lists but I wanted to ask you: What kinds of questions/topics do you gravitate towards? I know you pick and choose to go with the flow of the conversations, but are there topics you wish are submitted or is there a style of question you would like us to use more? I’m curious if you have any other criteria you look for from us. Regardless, I always enjoy what everyone submits, and a spoiler for you: I’m working on the EZA 300 Reviews stats and eventually EZA hitting 100 MILLION views (Ya’ll are just shy of 3 million from hitting it as of now). Thanks for reading as always and have a wonderful rest of your day! Cheers! QUESTION: For the Love & Respect segment, what kinds of questions/topics do you gravitate towards? I know you pick and choose to go with the flow of the conversations, but are there topics you wish are submitted or is there a style of question you would like us to use more?
