EVO was already a big pay for play scheme, that had developers basically give money under the table if you wanted your game featured, so it hasn't been grass roots for awhile. I think this deal gives the tournament a bit more stability and hopefully more polish, plus more money and support into the fgc eventually trickles down and helps the players and allows them to continue to make a living and follow their dream.

Thankful you put the EVO acquisition at the top of the podcast! Can't wait to hear Ben's take. There's a LOT more going on with Smash and I'm glad you didn't dip into it too much because..phew. Controversy. But Nintendo (aside from not wanting to showcase Smash's bad netcode, especially as roll back is making it's way into the other games) pulled away hard from the Smash competitive scene after a big list of outed pedophiles. Like I said, nasty business. That aside, as a fighting game nerd the only real concern is since Sony is taking the reigns how much are they REALLY going to be able to sit back and let this tournament they now own high light games from other platforms. How much will they REALLY allow older titles a time to shine. Evo is pretty corporate so I think they're far from their humble origins, but I still feel like Sony wouldn't highlight a game like "Them's fightin' herds" at Evo (good netcode or not). Future feels uncertain. Not bad but just uncertain.

Hehe, I love hearing, and saying Taika Waititi’s name. Sounds like a Jawa cursing at someone. 😅

Quick Correction: Devotion wasn't 'falsely rumored' to be released on GoG, it had a page and everything all set up for it. It wasn't until Red Candle games tweeted about the game's upcoming release (they tweeted December 16th, 2020 with the game's release being the 18th) that Good Old Games within several hours later tweeted they would be pulling the release from the store as a result of 'many messages'.
