Tutorial Rewrite Announcement (We're goin Original!)
Added 2023-06-06 14:40:40 +0000 UTCHello, my beloved readers!
At this moment, assuming you've been following the latest updates here, I'm sure you'll be thinking to yourselves, "Wait, what the heck? Finale? Epilogue? But the story isn't over yet!" And you would be most correct--it isn't!
We are, simply speaking, goin' original. This won't be especially big of a change--it's basically just the names of a few things (Ho-Jae, Guild of Representatives, etc) and Ho-Jae's nationality (from South Korean to Swedish, lol yeah we're really going there). In other words, there is no reason for you to read the originalified chapters you've already seen.
I am currently working on rereading and proofreading the entire story written so far, making parts original and fixing things up. This will take a bit of time. I'm not sure how long, but since I'll also have two of my friends to beta-read the entire thing, it might take upwards of a month to prepare it, at which point I will post it on here as a big chunky pdf-file or something similar. You don't need to read it, but it will be there, fo' shore.
And then, in a couple of months or so (the final chapter will upload to royalroad on the 27th of November, probably) I will start uploading the originalified version, as voted on by a bunch of readers in a poll I did once.
So. What does this mean for you all? Not much!
I can't say when I'll publish the next chapter, but I will certainly keep you all updated. It shouldn't take more than a month, though. When I do, you might notice a few names and things being altered, though this will be slight, and I'll be sure to attach a list of what words have been changed. It's still the same story, just with a slightly changed package.
And that's basically all I had to say! If you want to ask me more questions, I'm always hanging around my discord, and I'm pretty liberal when it comes to answering questions.
That said, thank you all for reading and being such sports, and I hope to see the lot of you when I come back with new chapters and the like!
PS: Yes, one of the reasons I'm originalifying this fanfiction is to try to get published again. But we'll see about that, won't we?
Comments
I've actually avoided rereading the original, mainly because it just isn't all that much fun, so hearing that this story is very distinct is lovely to hear! Regarding the floors, I'm pretty sure I only took inspiration from them for the first three floors, with floor 1 being arrow-based, floor 2 being more status condition-based and floor 3 having him kill goblins that are actually sapient and the gods giving him the babylon skill. Also, barely any of the character relationships the main character has is kept from the original. At a surface level, he does know a helpful male who keeps him anchored to the world and a female rebel leader who's maybe a bit bloodthirsty, but that's it. I'm lucky I had such disdain for the original from the very beginning or there would've been much more to edit, that's for sure. Amazon is nice! My only worry is that they won't pick me up because this was formerly a fanfiction (in which case I'm just screwed) or because the RRL release doesn't have a million views (which seems to be a major indicator of when they're willing to publish a story), but the first worry is unlikely and the second will hopefully be beat back when I republish this story as an original. Either way, I have hope that they'll like it! Hmm, naming suggestions... Did you have something in mind? I've already changed many of the names, but if you had any ideas, I'm all ears! :333

2023-06-12 06:17:41 +0000 UTCI remember reading the original four or five years back (guilty pleasure, no judgement!), but most of the details slipped my mind. Having just gone back through some of the wiki pages for it, I'll admit that I was quite surprised by how different the book was. Obviously the tone of this book is apples to oranges with the original, but I hadn't realized that you barely kept *anything* the same. The fact that you didn't lightly steal floor themes was the biggest surprise, considering the difficulty of coming up with tens of environments. The only points where it's obvious that you leaned on the main story are the names (but you got that) and with the interactions with the deities, which is pretty unique. I'm glad you're doing this - you deserve more money for this work! Many other authors seem to have positive things to say about amazon, and I hope you get your piece of the pie. And I want you to keep writing stuff for me, so there's that too. I am very happy to be back! Thank you for the chapters! I also have one question... If you're re-naming things, would you perhaps be open to making a post where people can submit suggestions? Obviously with the understanding that there's no obligation to use said suggestions.

2023-06-12 00:17:02 +0000 UTCThat's a very difficult question! I'm not entirely certain myself, but in the American legal system (which would be most relevant if I'm published by amazon), one of the main points is that the work isn't a replacement for the other. In that sense, I'm relatively confident that this story stands on its own legs since only the original concept is shared, with the tone, writing style and everything else clashing completely. Had this story shared more plot elements and story moments it would have been more dubious. So, thankfully, for me, all I really had/have to do is change the names here and there and a few titles and similar. Had I still used the title "the tutorial is [way] too hard" and the main character's original name any possible legal prosecutions would have had stronger ground to stand on. Luckily for me, the original story is basically just a hodge-podge of already overused cliched. One can wonder at what point it becomes plagiarism. Is it when you call a tower a tutorial? Is it when you get invited to it? Is it when you get to choose a difficulty? Is it when you have access to a forum inside the tower? Unsure. However, generally speaking, the fact is that the plausible deniability lies in the execution of these plot elements. The fact that this story appeals to a completely different crowd and is thus not a replacement for the original is, in the eyes of the law, a very strong argument against plagiarism. I'm still on thin ice, but even if this went to the courts, I doubt they would have much of a legal case to make against me since most plot elements connecting this to the original can be called tropes or is otherwise expected of the genre. But, yeah, this is weird stuff. I considered how much to change, but there's only so much of the original concept I can switch out before the story as a whole no longer makes sense. Wack stuff. Anyhow, welcome back! Good to see you!!

2023-06-11 22:30:53 +0000 UTCWhat's the point at which it's legally an original? Is there a resource that you're using as a reference?

2023-06-11 20:11:00 +0000 UTCI'll try to keep posting art and similar (I'll definatly upload the covers for the new original version) and I'll also try to get back to ordinary writing before the month is out :3
