Simple Live Battle MOCK (Very Old)

For an earlier RTS I experimented with a 'Battle Mode'.

Note the graphics, layout are all just a simple mock

The idea is your squadrons meet and you get this kind of scene, there are tons of buttons sliders, ATB interventions that you can control as a commander (rather than individually selecting units)

I.e. Click on 'Release missile salvo', or 'Self destruct', ' EMP enemy ships', 'Board Enemy ships'

How this would be implemented in Drone Commander is that it would be a small pop up window you could watch in real time whilst you do other stuff - or maximise it to see the full fight. Or minimise it to get on with other stuff and have it auto-play out.

Feel free to share thoughts.

Hey thanks for the feedback man! This was for an old game and a little bit intentional. The idea was/is that say you had 10 units on the field, each unit is a squadron. When none of them meets the enemy squadron this battle scene would pop up. The idea being, most of it was automatic and you sit back and enjoy the carnage - given that was only one squadron out of your 10, it's not all over in the blink of an eye. But i did want that 'it happens so fast' feeling, as is in space warfare. On the game map, your units(squadrons) take ages to travel accross the void, but when they get into close range - this kind of thing happens. So it encourages most of the front loading of your strategy before any squadrons meet. That said, as things progress, units get sturdier and battles last a lot longer (as they have shields etc) so then you are 'macro managing' in live battle - clicking those buttons like 'regroup' or 'EMP' applies to all units. Later they will come in waves, or have different formations you can set. It's not concrete and totally subject to change - though my feeling is, it's quite satisfying to watch. Later on you could have multiple of these happening close or at the same time, as tons of squadrons meet - so it forces you to macro macro manage. You will be focusing on the ones that matter or not using the battle window at all (which can be 1/4 the screen size, 1/2, full screen or none at all). Like when you are in REALLY big battles, with lots of squadrons you don't use it at all, it will be a different window where only the numbers, stats and 'macro' strategies shown. You'll still see all your squadrons, facilities, unites etc on the screen.

This looks pretty overwhelming with everything that's going on in the game screen and it might make it hard to fine tune responses for the players in terms of trying to secure certain objectives.
