Oh that's so cool about your friends book, i'd love to hear more! So the Sekarri originally were 1-1 like us humans. But a persistent disease that affected only one sex, caused the disparity in birth rates. Over the millenia, this affected culture and civilization, especially courting etc. However natural selection still remained, because women who picked a weaker male, would balance that out by the stronger female genes if all gave birth. It means, though the weak male got lucky his genes never made it; because out of the 20 children of his 9 spouses only a few of them made it in the earlier days. It meant that women were forced to become more aggressive in motivating, and levelling their husband up. In Sekarri culture, women can as a group decide to leave the man if he isn't up to snuff. The dynamics are complex though and lots of nuance!

2025-02-01 01:43:27 +0000 UTCI am curious about something that has been on my mind for a while. Due to the great difference in male and female ratio the women don't have much to pick from. But from those males they do have to choose from are there any undesirable traits that would make a female not want to breed with them? Traits such as being cowardly, lazy, or excessively violent or manipulative. Or what if the male looks good but decides to prefer other males over females? Are those males denied the chance to breed or do they get harvested or milked dry to have their donations be used later in artificial birthing? I am curious because a friend of mine was writing a backstory for her TTRPG that involved a space faring race of Imperialist bunny girls that relied on clones and drones while they kept what few males they had for harvesting and it makes me wonder how this race would deal with such situations.
