I'm absolutely crushing it right now - productivity is at 100% i've knocked out a lot of wins, but also our pixel artists working to the max, and a bunch new characters from the main artist, such as Oksana here, and I wanted to share some incredible wins achieved recently!
The RPG shooter is the last major hurdle before the road opens up, and finally i'm able to see it all coming together.
I've been playing it, and it's turning out a lot more fun now - the game feels a bit like a top down 2d halo shooter, but is expanding with lots of melee action, castable spells (scifi style), items and so on. Its a mashup of different styles I think works only because of the way I designed the game.
Combat Systems:
Enemy Intelligence Massively Improved - Carapax and Legionnaires now work as a swat teams
Quick Select System - Press N to slow time and choose from 4 tactical options (heal, insta-drone, special, team buff)
Enemy Stagger & Break Mechanics - Enemies below 30% HP now generate red auras with special audio/visual feedback, plus break windows for bonus damage
Enhanced Radar System - Non-invasive RPG radar now fully functional
Oksana & Doranel characters nearly complete
Delgado Dragon Boss in production
SWAT Girl character finished (getting height adjustments)
Straker Quick Dash animation complete
New Grenades added to arsenal
We've added some seriously cool new threats:
Plasma-Bug Enemy with hilarious fleet behaviors
Stone Golem in development
Doom Arachnid
Bigger, More Menacing Arachnid enemy
In short, below is a bit like a cutscene battle you can control, that's non-invasive, can Auto-Mode and compliments the RPG at important transition scenes.
I've been working on something special for the RTS battles - a brand new coordinate system (I created a new form of math - no AI, i swear! Its a kind of polar-arc coordinate system) that will make planetary flyby battles absolutely epic. Picture this: camera shifts to orbital view as your ships pass enemy fleets, all guns blazing in pure tactical carnage!
You have a window of time, to bash buttons, pull levers, and target enemy hard points - this will happen in key points in the game, and if you pull it off, you open up stuff like allied drop pod reinforcements, preventing your guys from getting orbital bombarded etc. It is time snipped, meaning it's fully designed not to feel like a drag; and helps blend RTS into RPG.
This is my creation, a brand new game mechanic and you'll be the first to see it in action.
