Character Background

At the start of this novel, Calista Stricthaven is a level 89 Delver in Sable Unlimited. She has been playing the game with Calista as her main player character since its release date. In that time, not only has Calista become one of the most sought after Delvers in the game, she has also amassed a large in-game fortune in doing so.

Her main point of residence (in game) is the island city of Evenport where she owns a small house that is filled with traps, secret doors, lock boxes, treasure, and weaponry. Her house is very inconspicuous one story affair in a lower-middle-class neighborhood where her neighbors know her as a friendly, but infrequent resident.

As for her background, Calista is a human of humble origins. Her father was a merchant sailor who never made good and married a barmaid who raised three children, two of whom did not survive childhood. Her mother died of old age, while that same year her father disappeared at sea.

Calista has numerous contacts within the world of Wraath. Not only is she a charter member of the largest guild in the game, she is also on a first name basis with several of the game’s premier NPCs. These characters include the legendary Belcalanzor, an arch-mage who runs a magical item and curio shop in Evenport and the semi-legendary seer and fortune teller Lady Helvetika who resides in Yandmouth.

Calista’s mount is an ultra-rare bird known as a Voorlock. This flightless birds look something like a cross between a moa and an eagle with blue feathers and a bright yellow beak. Voorlocks are prized mounts that can reach up to 45 mph when at full stride. Calista’s Voorlock has the added bonus of being a magical one where she can turn him into a statue that fits into her pocket with nothing more than a word of command.

Before descending into the Dungeon of the Mad Mage, Calista met with a shadowy figure at a small tavern in a village called Hilltop. This character told her that he needed her to retrieve a blade from the dungeon and that is was a powerful secret. Low and behold, she found said blade in the first room of the dungeon. However, that’s where her problems began as the dungeon did not want to give up the sword and now she is trapped.
