As much as I love all the LIs, I'm also not one for traditional "romance" (hence why I went for Mason's route in the first place XD) but holy hell has his story hit me in ways I wasn't prepared for. Mason being so unapologetically himself no matter what is magnetic, and it's so damn rewarding to watch his walls fall away.

2024-12-19 18:32:35 +0000 UTCThat was absolutely perfect! β€οΈ I love how Mason does "soft", and while reading this, I figured out why: I hate traditional "romantic" stuff and all the overly mushy gushy crap LIs can say (this is why I get squicked out with N and feel like it's totally cringe), but when Mason says how he feels, it's just as blunt as any other thing he says. The fact that it's sweet and charming is just accidental--he doesn't try to be charming, he's just got it down that bad for MC, so when he says what he feels, that's how it comes out (it's also why the bad stuff from him hits harder). It's also the fact that Mason shows MC what's underneath all the grumpiness and hostile reactions (which is just self-preservation, I totally get that) in a way even the rest of UB doesn't really get to see. He's just that relaxed, so the real "Mason" gets to shine through. No fear, no defensiveness or walls to keep MC away, just Mason who feels a connection he's never felt before. I do like the little inklings of fear that he might not be enough for MC or might get on their nerves. This is where the whole communication thing comes in, though. And, given that my M-mancer is just as afraid of that (and just as bad at expressing her feelings and too afraid to drop the "L word" on him unless it slips out (which it tried to in b3!), it's even more crucial that they both hear "the L word" from the other and a firm declaration that they are together and commit to each other "officially" (and bluntly, lol) so those little moments of fear can piss off (even with the b4 demo, Dezh is still convinced he's banging other people and will be gone as soon as someone hotter or more interesting comes along). Anyway, sorry for the rambling. I loved this! You did a great job, Mishka!! Hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! ππ π»βοΈβππβοΈ
