Golden Mask - Mysterious place

She had glided behind Suzanne like a shadow, and now her light steps had finally died away, dissolving into the silence.
Suzanne, feeling a strange uneasiness, turned around. The stranger stood motionless, with a slight, mysterious smile that seemed to say more than any words. Her gaze was insistent and piercing, as if she knew something that Suzanne could not understand. Suzanne's heart began to beat faster, and her thoughts darted about like startled birds.
At that moment, something completely unexpected happened. Trying not to take her eyes off the stranger, Suzanne did not notice how her foot caught on the scattered garbage on the floor. She lost her balance and stumbled awkwardly, then fell with a dull thud onto the cold, dirty floor. Her insides clenched with shame - how stupid and ridiculous it looked!
