Sneak Peak & Art Block Tips! 💜✨

Hey guys! Here’s a sneak peak of my newest painting which I’ll be posting soon 💖

Remember that purple art-block sketch I posted for our Support Saturday? And you guys shared some AMAZING advice & strategies on how to combat art block? Well, you guys successfully inspired me and I was able to turn that sketch into this piece, which I’m actually really happy with! I can’t thank you all enough for your support, it means so much! 💖

I thought I would share a few of the things I do to fight art block with you guys too! Here are some things I do when I’m feeling uninspired:

1. Create a mood board!

Mood boards are really cool because they’re not focusing on a single reference, it’s a whole mixture of things that inspire you 💖 I like creating mood boards with artworks by my favorite artists and sometimes try to create a work that combines aspects of all of them!

2. Watch a drawing video by an artist you admire.

This helps me a lot! Especially drawing videos by Ahmed Aldoori. It gets your head out of your own art space for a moment and places you into the creative space of another artist, which can be really inspiring!

3. “Automatic” abstract doodling.

In art school I learned about an art movement called Automatism which basically is all about creating art without thinking—making marks with your pencil that are automatic. It’s really cool to do this because you never know what you’ll end up with, and it tends to unlock tons of ideas for me! Keeping it abstract and weird just helps with the “not thinking” part. The first time I did it, I ended up painting something that looked like a centipede mixing with a human spine and I got really inspired! 😆
