How to Achieve a Painterly Style!

Hello lovely Patrons! :)

Here is our tutorial for the month of July!! I had so much fun creating this painting and I'm so excited to share my process and some painting tips with you all :) I hope you guys enjoy watching the video!

You guys really liked the idea of downloading the line art for this piece and painting it in your own style, so I've included the sketch as an attachment in this post! Here's what you can do:

It'll be so cool to see this amazing character in everyone's styles! Can't wait to see what you guys do :) You guys rock!

Love,

Lydia

The one thing you have touched on, but not clarified is edges…. The big difference between painting & drawing is edges. In general paintings don’t have outlines, as they are replaced with lost, found & soft edges. Hard edges define focal points & plane changes, while soft edges, show gradients as a more rounded form recedes from the light…. Lost edges, depict areas where one form blends into another… hair that’s in shadow against a background of shadow, or a form in light blending into another area of light, losing the edges of the form partially or completely. I hope this adds some extra value to your tutorial.

Yes! So I use a variety of default Procreate brushes, for this piece I used a lot of dry ink, acrylic brush, some airbrush, round brush, and a few extra brushes from a free downloadable brush pack by DizzyTara on Gumroad! 💖 The songs that I know of are Crying Soul and Fata, but I forget the artists!! Hope that helps:) ✨

I hope you don't mind me asking but what brush did you use? Also what's the name of the song lol I liked it
