Hello lovelies! β¨
Here is a step-by-step tutorial showing how I painted the lighting on a character's face! π€ I wanted to share the lighting process for this one to show that when you use a combination of warm lighting and cool shadows, it produces a really pretty effect! This is actually often how we see light and shadows in real life because of the sky's color reflecting on things around us. The direct light of the sky can create cool shadows, and light from the sun reflecting off the ground creates a warm light effect. Having this basic knowledge of colors can really boost your color palettes in drawing/painting!
Some simple color combos for lighting/shadows are orange & purple (like I show in the step-by-step) or yellow and blue. On the other hand, if I had decided to use just a darker red/orange for my shadows to counterbalance by orange/yellow lighting, the drawing would look a little too warm or muddy. Using purple or blue in the multiply layers for shadows cools down the warmth and makes the light look even more vivid and vibrant!
Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy this little step-by-step and find it helpful! π Have a beautiful day :)
Love,
Lydia βοΈ
