Expressions & Emotions Tutorial! 🎥🎞✨

Happy Sunday guys! ☺️

As promised, here is this month’s tutorial video: Expressions & Emotions! ✨ This is one of my favorite subjects in drawing because emotion is so important for character design, and I love giving my characters an emotional and expressive feel! 💛 I hope you guys enjoy watching the video 😄🎉

Thank you all for such an amazing month!! Creating all of this month’s content for you guys was so much fun! 🥳 I feel like every month that passes is so full of learning for me and discovering new content to give you guys, and I’m just happy to be able to share it 💛☺️ thank you for being the coolest patrons! ✨

Stay tuned for an info post about the upcoming Draw Me event that is starting up again in the first week of September! I’ll be posting each portrait I created for the last event for you guys to see! 🤗✏️

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! ✨

Love,

I like your arts because they are so expressive.😍I am using another painting program, so I want to know your basic setting such as canvas size. Thank you for your big help!I will keep supporting you and your art for sure.

So happy you enjoyed it! ☺️💛

Lydia Elaine

Aw I’m so glad you found it inspiring! 💛 that’s so encouraging ☺️

Lydia Elaine

Glad you enjoyed it!! 💛 and yes! I think that aspect depends on the style you’re going for, because it definitely works for a more realistic style. My style is more cartoony/based off of anime, which rarely has those kinds of details except through subtle light and shadow to give the cheeks a more lifted look! Sometimes subtlety is all you need to communicate the same features, so instead of drawing the entire smile line, you could sketch a smaller one near the corner of the mouth for example 🤗 but it’s really about the depth of detail you’re aiming for! 💛

Thank you for the tutorial, I found it very helpful ❤️

C.Beatrix

So very helpful and inspiring, thank you for this tutorial !

Loved this tutorial! Have you ever tried painting details such as the cheeks from the reference photo (such as in the happy reference)? I think that they add a lot to the subject in photography, but it feels like there would be too much detail in a digital painting 🤔

Amazing tutorial! Thank you so much, it’s extremely helpful 💙

Yay! ☺️ so happy you enjoyed it! And yes! I actually learned that from observing a lot of anime, there’s so much expression that can be seen in the line directions of their hair and clothing, it really adds to their overall emotion! 💛

Lydia Elaine

This was so helpful ~!🥰❤️✨ I never really thought about the line directions when drawing emotions but it really is true.😯❤️

I’m glad it helped!! 💛 and yes of course! I’ve gotten several requests this month for male anatomy and such, and I’ll definitely be including it in the poll for September! 😄

Lydia Elaine

So glad to hear that! 💛✨

Lydia Elaine

This tutorial helped me so much ♥️ as a suggestion for next month’s tutorial could you do something on how you draw male anatomy/portraits as it is something I need to improve on. Love your work xx
