Can you explain what the use is for doing a multiply later, thank you 🙏

This was very helpful <333

Maddy

Super well explained and inspiring! Thanks a lot for all those amazing tutorials.

I’m so happy you found it helpful! 🥰 I used a round brush to render, a brush called Edge Control by Jingsketch on Gumroad for sketching, and that’s basically it! 😌 I also really like Marker Multiply by Max Ulichney from his Comic brush set ✨ Feel free to check out my recent post that has a full list of my favorite brushes too! Many of them are what I generally use for hair 🌼

This is so so helpful thank you!! may I ask what brushes you used?

you make it look so effortless🤩 these tips are definitely helping me out! Life saver😍

Yay I’m so happy you found it helpful! 😄 and yes! I looove using ribbon highlights, they’re super easy and create such a pretty look! 😍

Lydia Elaine

Thank you so much❤️❤️❤️the silhouette trick is exactly what I'm missing! And I love you ribbon highlight technique, seems more natural to me than the other ones I know

Elena Buya

Yay I’m glad you enjoyed it! 😄 and sure! I think you can never go wrong with shading in “oval” patterns with your hand when adding shadow to the hair, rather than scratchy or straight patterns of shading, if that makes sense! Imagine painting little pancake-shapes, always keeping your edges rounded. Using a round brush (or Round Render from my brush pack) helps keep everything round and smooth! As for highlights, you can see in the video how I talk about ribbon highlights which are skinny in the center and get longer and sharper along the edges of the hair, which emphasize flowiness :) you can see an example of it really clearly when I’m painting the hair swatch for the straight hair type and the wavy hair type! 💛 I should definitely make a step-by-step tutorial on these smaller techniques for you guys! But I hope that helps a little! ☺️

Lydia Elaine

Thanks for this Lydia!😍 Just what I needed! 💞 May I ask if there are any tips you can share on what shape should the shadows and highlights be? I always seem to find my shadows and highlights look “unnatural” when I draw them over my base color 😔

loulouarts_

Of course! 💛 A simple guide you can remember for individual hair clumps is to shade on the tips and the top of each hair clump, blending out the shadows on each end softly toward the center. For the hair as a whole, it helps to observe the way shadows interact with hair in references to see the common areas shadows will appear! But as another guide, I usually shade with an airbrush around the top of the head (you can see that in the video), then around the middle of the hair, and then at the ends, with highlights in between :)

Lydia Elaine

Thank you for this! 🥰 May I ask: how do you decide where you’ll shade? It’s what I struggle with the most! 🥺
