Hello June! 🌼🃠A Little Newsletter to You + my plans for this month 💌✨

Hello everyone and happy first day of June! 🥰🌼✨

Right now it’s a beautiful sunny day and I’m sitting in a cozy sun spot while I write this to you 💛 It’s supposed to be rainy & cloudy for the rest of the week so I’m enjoying the sunshine while it lasts ☺ï¸âœ¨

It’s a new month and Mermay is officially over, which means it’s time to get back to drawing lots of various subject matter again and explore new things! 😠So I wanted to share a few things that are inspiring me right now and some plans of things I want to explore this month âœï¸âœ¨

One of the main things I’ve been thinking of doing this month is exploring more diverse angles when it comes to poses, and also incorporating backgrounds into my character drawings more often! 🌆

So here’s a little mood board of some references I’m thinking of using as inspiration! 💌 My main goal of studying references like these is to practice capturing a moment and a feeling, while also practicing my background skills since that‘s an area where I usually struggle 😅 But I really want to challenge myself this month, and I‘ll be taking you guys with me through that little journey! ☺ï¸âœ¨

The other thing I want to explore this month is drawing characters that interact with subject matter. I love drawing simplistic portraits and character drawings, but I love the idea of adding more emotion to my art by drawing characters who are interacting with a subject or their environment! And one of the subjects I’m imagining my characters interacting with is plant life ðŸƒâœ¨

Plants can add so much life and energy to a drawing, and I want to experiment with the idea of drawing a character that ties into the plants in a conceptual way, using color and poses to add a little extra emotion! ☺ï¸âœ¨ I think it will be a challenge, but I’m really excited to experiment and share my ideas with you guys 😌💛 Both mood boards are attached at the bottom of this post if you’d like to save them in high quality and use for your own inspiration! ✨

What kinds of things are you trying to improve with your art this month? I love hearing about it because it also gives me ideas of what kinds of step-by-step tutorials and videos to make for you guys! 🥰

Anyways, I am sooo so excited to begin a fresh new month with all of you and get started on all the things I have planned for this month’s content! 😠And I’m so happy you’re here with me for the journey 💛 let’s make this a fun month! 🥳✨

Love,

Lydia 💌

Oh man, I've been kind of on a self-improvement kick as well.....Last year I challenged myself to complete at least 1 full illustration a month, in high resolution. Really beefed up my portfolio! This year I'm trying to explore more painting techniques....ultimately, I'd like to get back into Actual Oil Painting on canvas again, but translating that painting technique to a digital canvas is a challenge, too! I've gotten so comfortable with cartoons and comics, I'd like to have some fun with painterly textures again.

I am so excited for June ✨

Thank you for sharing your mood boards! It really helps when you have art block! 💖

Love your mood boards! 😠I really want to practice more backgrounds too and making more dynamic poses. Your post really inspires me to start getting out of my comfort zone more. 😊

This is awesome and I’m so excited! Your mood boards are way cute! This month I’m going to be practicing some realism and hopefully find a breakthrough with my art! I’ve never done realism before and I’m thinking it can really help lay down fundamentals for me! ðŸ™ðŸ»

I'm honestly horrible with backgrounds and landscapes so I hope to learn from these!!

This sounds great, I'm so excited to see your drawings !! This month I wanted to study flowers and add it to my portraits! (and work on hands poses but maybe I will do it later, as always ahah 🙈)

Awesome! Personally, I am working on adding some dimensionality to my art. Once I add color, my work comes out a bit flat. I think some of your sketching tips from last month may be helpful.

Woww so exited, love those moodboards, I think I want to improve showing more emotions on my characters and adding more depth to the pieces (if that makes sense😅) ☺ï¸ðŸ’–✨

This sounds perfect! I too struggle with drawing different angles or any interaction so I can't wait for the content this month! My plans for this month is to join "the plastic summer art festival" challenge by Plastic.pen. Probably won't have time to do everything but at least a few entries would be nice! :) If anyone is joining too let me know, we can encourage each other! :)

Brilliant! I too struggle with coming up with more diverse/ dynamic angels. I feel I gravitate to the same 3/4 face stagnate poses. My personal goal for June was to work on my background skills. It's just something I want in my personal tool kit.

Yey - so excited! 🌻

So excited for this month’s content, I struggle in the process of coloring my characters, and finding a style that makes me feel satisfied. I’ve been really enjoying your tips and using to improve my art. Thanks a lot â¤ï¸

Thanks so much Lily! 🥰 and I totally get that feeling, it will be so nice to finally draw something other than a mermaid again!! 😅

Hehe me too! 😠they’re so fun to make and I can’t wait to get started!!💛

I am so excited to see your drawings using those mood boards! They look really inspiring :) Also, I saved so many reference pictures of the sky too! This year's MerMay wasn't the best one for me and I am really excited to switch drawing to something different :)

I’m so excited for this month tutorials 😄!!!
