Ways to get characters to use in DSS

The first way is to make it yourself using Vroid Studio! This is the most common way, and you can find a lot of materials by Googling or watching YouTube tutorials.

If you have limitations with your design, you can get various parts such as hair, eyes, and clothes through the Booth.

Or you can download VRM files from the websites below.

PMX or FBX files can be converted to VRM through specific tasks.

I will write a detailed guide for the game in the same format later. I would appreciate any feedback on the guide. There are other ways, but I think this is probably the most free from terms and conditions and uses the lightest programs.

Hello again! Random suggestion, but I was wondering, only if you have the time and want to do so, could you show what facial expressions to set for the best results? After playing around a bit in blender and observing the characters I noticed that the simulation seems to use a mix of the assigned expressions. For the most part this works but I do still tend to get situations where the facial expression seems off or broken(Note: This is not an issue with the game, just my lack of understanding of how the game uses assigned expressions). So yeah, that's why I'm curious on how you set the expressions to get the best results in the simulation. Also again, this is only if you want to and if you have the time. If you don't want to then no worries, this was just a thought I had. Anyway, keep up the good work!

Hello! Sorry I'm bothering again but another idea popped into my head. Along with a better guide you make you can also make a video showing exactly what you do to make a model into a vrm model. This would make it even easier for people unfamiliar with blender.

Nice I figured it out! Turns out all I needed to do was rename a few bones then everything else went pretty smoothly! Pretty much just need to adjust her expressions now so they make sense in the simulation. Another thought though, I was able to figure it out in part because I have some experience using Blender. But for someone who doesn't know blender at all, they would probably get stuck on some parts like editing bone names and one part in particular I can think of in particular is the expressions. The guide doesn't explain how to select the Body mesh and how the "shae keys" is the actual expression that you're assigning. Another thing is to make sure to keep the preview on 0 until you've selected the expression. Some might get confused, setting it to 1 then not seeing a change when they choose an expression. Okay that's all I got to say for now, guide needs some tweaks but still nice job! I look forward to using the importing feature in the game!

Okay, so I tried the guide. It's alright but it doesn't account for any errors/roadblocks. So, I got the Karin model from Booth and tried to make it into a vrm model. But I immediately ran into problems with the Cats addon where it didn't fix any bones and just gave me an error message. And because of that I believe then the "bone assignment" that the VRM addon has just doesn't work, so due to this I can't turn Karin into a vrm model. Small tips on how to fix these errors/roadblocks, if they occur, would go a long way with making the guide a lot more useful! For now though I guess I'll just try to figure out why things aren't working xd

After this demo, he will probably not release any more versions until the full release. I assume he is making it as polished as possible so he probably needs the extra time so the demo leaves the best first impression The last couple of posts have been at the end of the month as well so I personally wouldn't start worrying until it's the 1st of December.

Thanks, It's a cuatom build I have had since beginning of October lol. Can run all simulations in DSS and play beamng drive and no lag (both cpu heavy (dss not so heavy but more cpu than gpu))

I appreciate the guide, but can the beta use custom VRM files at all, or will this only apply when the demo comes out? Curious as I'd like to use custom characters but not exactly anything to use it on for the moment.

Nice to see more news and stuff related to dss, i can't wait for the next version release in what was it, November? We're so close to it I just have one question - in what place did you find the nude bodies that you used in your fanbox exclusive videos? I really wish to make some models with those bodies specifically, because their style is beautiful. If you could share that, I'd be truly thankful. Thank you for your hard work 👉👉✨

Also, I decided to skip the step of specifying the expressions just to see if the VRM file will work, and it will, but some of the outfit modifiers that I didn't enable in Step 2 were on the character when I didn't want them, and the character model was HUGE, like 100 feet tall huge.

Your guide for converting PMX/FBX files to VRM is written for people who already know how to use blender. I've been able to barely navigate it fine enough though, EXCEPT when I get to step 4 to "Select each expression in Section 1 and add Shae Keys in Section 2 to specify the expression." I have no idea what that means, and I can't figure out for the life of me how to navigate this UI when half of these characters are Japanese.

Seems like a good thing to include. thank you for the update. Does this mean that you don't plan on adding more characters yourself? the current models look fine but they seem a bit low quality when compared to the ones you can find online or even the ones you use in your youtube/fanbox videos. I don't really know how any of this works so I apologize if i'm talking out of my ass here, but you should consider adding a couple of higher quality models to the game just to make it more accessible to more people. Maybe sell them as dlc to offset the cost of acquiring the models? wish you the best and am looking forward to your next post.

Nice to hear, I'm also intrested if the game will be optimized for very good cards, I recently upgraded my computer with Ryzen 7 7800X3D, RTX 4080 Super, and 64 GB of 6000Mhz DDR5 memory. I would love to see some beautiful graphics if possible, remember to optimize the game.

Hey, I really like this guide because this is the only one that works for me. But I'm kinda stuck at the expression adjustment. Can you explain more about this? I want to convert PMX file from Hoyo, I can't really changed her expression (other than her eyebrow)
