The moment of true happiness that Angel experienced with Buffy were not only because they slept together, it was, among other things, the feeling of elation due to the trust Buffy placed in him, the love that he felt from her at that particular moment. It was her first time, it’s important. Having said that, the scoobies, even Xander, had every right to be angry with Buffy for hiding things from them. You might argue with the way Xander expressed it, or the hypocrisy, but you can appreciate him being worried and angry. Believe me this come from someone who doesn’t like this character. Giles was right to be angry as well and if he really was influenced by Gwendolyn Post, his reaction would have been a lot less restrained.

Xander sucks here (as he somewhat regularly does) - the nerve to be mad at Buffy for keeping a secret while he's cheating on Cordelia. And he hated Angel way before Angelus came out & Xander acts like it was Angel who killed Jenny, not Angelus. Buffy really should've told Giles & Willow though so they could help and try to find out why & how Angel came back from hell.

They're concerned about her not being able to control herself around him. Buffy is a teenager who was in an abusive relationship. She's not infallible. For instance, we see her kiss Angel when she's clearly trying not to this episode (failing to not kiss someone and failing to not sleep with someone are not at all the same, but a kiss could have been all it took to break the curse after his time in hell for all Buffy knew). I'm confident that Buffy would fight Angelus if he resurfaced, but she shouldn't risk the damage he might cause before she stopped him without preparing for the possibility first. They had valid concerns and they mostly (I'm looking at you, Xander) expressed them rationally. There is nothing idiotic about that.

(they were looking before he sent them into the stacks, so it wouldn't make sense to say this unless he knew what they were doing once they got there) -"no, i'd say we're done." (despite the fact he still needed info) the scoobies are such idiots in this episode. do they really think buffy would be self-hating enough to turn angel back into angelus after what happened last time? she wouldn't put them in danger and put herself through hell again just to get some dick, jesus christ guys. they think so little of her. then to say "and leave us to clean up the mess" as if anyone but buffy has ever solved problems for them?? if she turned out to be wrong she would obviously fight angel. that's what she did last time. so either xander is making shit up to make her sound worse or he's actually a dimwit. they have every right to be angry she kept it from them but to insult her intelligence by acting like she's gonna do it again or that she's wrong about him being good is SO annoying. also them continuing to act like angel was at all responsible for angelus' actions. bro was literally in the ether when everything went down angel has the same curse as before, he would lose his soul if he experienced true happiness. jenny didn't create a spell for him, that's extremely advanced magic and she didn't even consider herself powerful enough to be considered a witch. what she did was take the spell that they already had, which had been useless for centuries due to losing the language it was in, and build a computer program to figure it into english.

2025-01-14 00:23:25 +0000 UTCWillow cursed Angel with the same spell that cursed him the first time, so everyone is right to assume the curse would break again if he becomes perfectly happy. Xander has never been great at getting his point across when his emotions are high, but I understand his anger over Buffy pretending that secretly meeting with Angel and kissing him is no big deal.
