Buffy The Vampire Slayer 3x12 | Helpless

My full reaction to Buffy Season 3 Episode 12 "Helpless"

Jeff Kober played our psycho baddy vamp this episode. He's one of my fave actors who pops up here and there. He was the devil worshipping killer villain in The First Power (opposite Lou Diamond Phillips IIRC) and also played Daedelus in the brief Vampire: the Masquerade-based show Kindred: The Embraced (along with Brian Thompson and Channon Roe who pops up in The Zeppo ep of Buffy). He also is unrecognizable in Tank Girl as Booga. Younger folks mostly know him as Jacob Hale on Sons of Anarchy.

Great character episode for Buffy and Kralik's actor and SMG killed it. Goes to show, as you said, that she has chosen to be Slayer powers or no.

Is this a test the Council wished for their Slayers to pass? Perhaps a getting younger girl who is more compliant, and controllable? Not a young woman on the cusp of adulthood. As Kendra said in What's My Line Pt 2., "The things you do and have, I was taught distract from my calling. Friends. School. Even family." Socially dependent on her watcher. The way Buffy forgives Giles so quickly makes me think she may be a bit dependent on him as well.

Hmm been awhile since I seen Walking Dead, I'll have to go back and look. Thank you!

Chance's House Of Horror

Actor that plays the baddie you probably recognize as the leader of that group that ran with Daryl in The Walking Dead. (Season 4) Joss uses him much later for another character. (As he did with Brian Thompson)

The watchers council is obviously a representation of the patriarchy. Their subjugation of the slayer (remember there’s supposed to be only one in the whole world, until she dies) is stronger if she is a young girl. This absurd test once, or as Giles said, “if” she reaches 18 is just a way, as I read it, to possibly get rid of a gradually independent person. God forbid we should have a mature strong individual who can challenge the patriarchal power. It has been implied and shown that the slayer doesn’t have a long life, so the probability that she reaches 18 is low. Buffy herself has already died. If it wasn’t for Xander she would still be. This episode was beautifully written and directed. And you’re right SMG did a fantastic job. David Fury is the writer credited for this one. A small moment that I liked with Cordelia was when she saw Buffy in distress, asking her to take her home, she immediately did, no hesitation. I hope you feel better soon.

This episode is like a murderous version of Menudo, the council likes to keep the slayers young and controllable, gross

You finally met BITCH ASS QUENTIN. Hate this motherfucker so much 😭 Kralick is one of my fave villains of the week! Genuinely terrifying and creepy af. I remember when this ep aired, I was surprised the network let them get this dark, even for Buffy. They got away with a lot of stuff cos it went under the radar as this teeny bopper show but its crazy cos this was on at like 8pm lol The Buffy/Giles scenes felt like a stab to the gut. I know SMG got a clause in all her contracts that she won't even take a job unless she dies, has a chase scene or both lmao Hope you feel better soon!

Yup Scarface is one of the movies I remember him from!

Chance's House Of Horror

That's Harris Yulin playing Quentin Travers from The Watcher's Council. If you've seen Scarface you might recognise him from such scenes as this...https://youtu.be/3PaJYleWw5E?si=wL2Wf8T2CJtI_fTS Dude is a freakin' powerhouse of a character actor.

Maybe Giles hypnotized you and that’s why you’re feeling off
