A Simple Question on Shots

How often do you use or see others use the bottom mode on Shoot/Charge Shot?

(Any version)

A Simple Question on Shots

We have the 1.0 deck, and a player who just attacks whoever attacked him first, he will spend whatever he can to be able to hit the person that hit him first, some characters use it more often as they have more cards in hand, but usually they will just hit the person on the other team that's closer to try close the gap

Playing only 1.0, i see the bottom played once or twice a night of play. Not the most, but befitting a "secondary" function of a workhorse danmaku card. For all intents and purposes Shoot is just the "basic shot", with a contingency for stalemates and thats perfectly fine.

1.0, it depends on if someone's built up some distance. If not then typically no, we had a group of four both times.

My group uses the physical 1.0 deck. Out of all the games we've had it is generally used maybe once per game (with the exception of one character, we don't tend to hold enough shoots where discarding 2 would be economical).

I've only ever played with a 1.0 Deck (still using it after all these years) and I think I've only seen the bottom ability used once or twice.

For me, the bottom side of shoot becomes less relevant in small-medium sized games(4-6 players). Cards like Laser Shot and Seal Away does not need distance in order to attack or activate a secondary effect. Often times a target can dodge an attack making a 2:1 card exchange often not favorable. It's better to save a card like shoot for the purpose of activating a character's passive (ie Aya's cancel or Iku's season cancel) or to participate in an upcoming incident (fairy wars and Fubuki).

I think it majorly depends on the version: In 1.0, the range increase is very weak, so it only rarely gets used, and almost never for more than 1 extra. Though range from items usually isn't enough to compensate for base distance and modifiers (abilities/items), the weakness of this effect means it usually at least doesn't feel worth it, so people often prioritise attacking the people they do have range on, even if it's not their ideal target. In 1.1, the rangeless shoot is very well positioned, as access to range and distance is similar to 1.0, but being able to use any card, as well as completely ignoring range makes it pretty common. In 2.0, it is rarely used. Though more common than in 1.0, distance in general being much harder to get more of, while range is a lot more common, means it simply isn't necessary most of the time. Drawing cards also seems a bit easier, so people can simply draw into the range or better danmaku.

It does feel like there's been reduction in the number of times I've seen Shoot's Rangeless half be used, although I think that's mainly from less total Shoots in the deck, and more ways to get Range or Rangeless attacks in the deck. I do remember in the 1.1 Deck the Shoot bottom-half effect was a lot more prevalent.

For the maybe once or twice per game - it when playing with the Lunatic expansion. Once you add the Market or Hanabi expansion - the second half becomes non-existent.
