2025-03-31 23:03:24 +0000 UTCvery late comment because i'm just now catching up after needing to lapse my subscription for a little bit, but here's something that i've always believed about the breakup scene where buffy says she wants her life to be with angel and he says he doesn't- he was telling the complete truth. when he responds "i don't" he doesn't mean he doesn't want to be with her, he means he doesn't want her to be with him. he wants more for her life than that, but he could never ask for anything more in his own if he had her. the comment serves as a way to push her away while still being honest with her. it's so beautifully sad. as well as the dream- very clear meaning. his weaknesses will burn her down if he keeps progressing in this relationship. aka he won't be the only one suffering from his vampirism, literal curse, and curse of immortality if he takes this further

It must have been extremely difficult for him to walk away from the first person he's been real close with since maybe ever... And where she has her friends to support her, he's dealing with it alone

The ending of this episode is such a beautiful moment as well, plus Anya's attempts at human dating are always good for awkward hilarity.
