As some of you are aware I've been out of action with the flu for a week; it's been pretty rotten but when I've felt alright enough I've been working on this piece. It's inspired by a few different things, but initially by a shot from Mercedes (which I can't share here as it's on her subscription page) I've taken it off in it's own direction, and a bit outside my comfort zone with all the water and flowers.
I'm fascinated by water, reflections and trying to attain that wet look without it looking like plastic so this was a good opportunity to try it again. Whether I succeeded is anyone's guess, but I like the more painterly look on this piece.
The flowers I really struggled with tbh. I find it really hard to resolve their shapes in my mind and they kept looking like mush to me, so I ended up falling back on an advertising trick, and I kitbashed them. I purchased a stock library of flower heads and warped and transformed a few into more stylised shapes, painted out a lot of the detail and then colourised them to match the purple aesthetic I was going for.
What do you think?
