Nice memory! The comic shop I first went, was a stamp and coin shop that had comics. It was weird, I remember it to this day, when I first went there. All the back issues ere in the back. You would just tell them what you were looking for and they would go get it, barring they had. But, they seem to have everything. The would charge guide for them, which introduced me to the comic books, buyers guide. The first thing I asked four was the entire Wolverine mini series, which they had. The whole set was about 12 bucks, which seemed like a lot of money then. I remember my dad saying, what? I had the money myself, but my dad thought I was getting ripped off and forever hating those dudes. They got a new store across the street and hand their long boxes on the sales floor. However, the good stuff was still in the back. I would show up with my pull list to build my collection and probably paid a fortune. The most I dropped in one day was $75 and got a bunch of key issues. I think Conan #1 was in that lot. The first book I made money on was Daredevil #1. I bought it for 60 and sold it for $120. They guide at the time was 225 for very fine to mint. Mine was very good. I didn't get that issue from the stamp and coin though, but found it a flea market.

Snap! I just turned that age last week. (Which doesn't seem possible but..) And yeah mid 80es is when I discovered my first dedicated comic book store. Was sooo exciting stepping into one of those and seeing all the back issues and exclusive posters the stores would get for upcoming stories. (I remember a black and white one for Kraven's Last Hunt that I would pretty much pay just about any price to track down now...) But yeah it was fantastic. The day I found the two treasury sized Spider-man-Superman crosovers amongst their back issues is a real treasured (no pun intended) childhood memory for sure. And the 80es was such a great time to get into them, Especially Marvel which I'd say was probably never better than around that time.

I'm 47. The bookstore where I first started getting comics on a regular basis back in 1983 would bundle 3 older comics together in a bag for $1 instead of tear the cover off and send them back for credit. So, I would grab a couple bundles on comic book day to get back issues. You would know what two of them were, but the third in the middle was a mystery. They would keep them together by either DC or Marvel though. Their sister store in the mall would do the same. When I first discovered my first real comic shop in 1985, I learned of the world of back issues and started making lists of comics I need. 85 was really when I got serious about collecting, as did a lot of people I knew.

We must be about the same age then, as yeah I caught up with them later too. (Though having said that I was in the UK so we'd often get reprints of comics and series of cartoons a bit later than when they debuted in the US.)

It is the most visually spectacular of the female bronze age good girl characters, save maybe storm. I don't pay much attention to post 1991, but I did like her reappearence in the New Avengers, #5 or 6 I think, where she dons the costume after many years, worrying her figure has gone to hell. I agree with Luke Cage , who was there to say, "damn girl". I liked the Frank Cho stuff, but then I checked back out. I also loved that cartoon as well. It was hard to get back in the day where I grew up, so it was always a treat when you could catch it. Spider-Man and his amazing friends was always more easy to watch. I'm an 80s kid, but I liked that late 70s stuff probably the most! However, I was in kindergarden in 1978 and Star Wars was all the rage. But I still managed to get a few comics, some mego dolls and the pocket heroes.

Absolutely agree with you on Spiderwoman! Her classic red and yellow skintight outfit is THE sexiest superheroine costume there's ever been IMHO. (Though I prefered it once they let her hair free.) I have fond memories indeed of that old Spiderwoman cartoon. Her and Firestar ruled the 80es cartoons for me! It bugs the hell out of me that Marvel keep changing it in the books now! No doubt so they can have a movie/tv show that uses the 'modern' take and they can say it's canon. (See Captain Marvel. Or better yet don't! :( )

I agree! I like all my comics heh-vay on the boo-tay!

That's okay; I kind of like my comics heavy on the female booty. 🥰

It is very booty-heavy! "There's that word again, heavy! Is there something wrong with the earths gravitational pull in the future?" --Doc Brown
