Earfun UBOOM L - official presentation on Friday May 27th

Sorry to inform you that the launch planned for today was delayed to next week (probably Tuesday) because of some production issues by the factory. As it won’t make sense to start any presale as long as no units are produced yet, they decided to wait until the first production batch will really start without issues.

This will be the public video presenting the Earfun UBOOM L next Friday which I wanted to share with you already before. Curious about your thoughts.

There will be 30% discount for those who subscribe to Earfun's site which will also get online the same day. This makes the price around $/€ 56,- for those who register in time, as the discount will be only limited for 10 or 14 days, and also for 500 to 1000 units only, depending on how many will actually subscribe or register. The speaker should become available on 20th of June and you will be able to redeem the code on amazon.com, amazon.de and amazon-uk. This is the info I got so far.

This video also uses my new compensation I applied to the binaural microphones, which should offer a smoother sound than my previouis compensation. I may still invest some time during the next days to improve it even more, which is actually not that easy. In case I manage something better I will upload a new version before publishing. My goal is to get a very lifelike result if listened over the Earfun Free Pro 2 with my reference tuning, just as if you were sitting in front of the speaker with very little colorations compared to the original sound.

Update:I reuploaded the video with improved audio. You can find the old version here: https://youtu.be/ClTpXZvSmK8

It took me several days or rather nights to come up with some improvement but it’s really hard to achieve a convincing and universal result which should be as uncoloured as possible. You should still hear an improvement especially regarding treble and clarity.

I may need to change my current approach with trying to use speakers playing pink noise as reference for “neutral” and rather concentrate on using real natural sound sources for calibration and equalizing as speakers are not able to produce a really unbiased even spectrum without dips and peaks. I hear weird frequencies in the phantom center which I cannot explain which may be the result of just 2 sound sources playing a sound but no sound coming from inbetween. Wind noises, waves, splashing water etc should be a much better reference, like I noticed just today when I was trying to record some leaf sounds from our birch moving in the wind but using my current compensation which I had achieved during the last days listening to speakers I hear lots of “errors” in the frequency spectrum that I recorded. It’s mostly the area between 2.5-13khz which is hard to reproduce with a headphone because the spectrum gets totally distorted by the human ear (both the outer ear and ear canal). Once the ballyhoo around the release of the UBOOM L will decline I want to experiment more with trying to achieve an even more neutral “reference” for both my recordings, equalizings, tunings or whatever as this should improve my results for everything I was doing so far. Therefore I want to thank everyone for their continuous support. Without you this speaker could never have been released in this state, keep that in mind!
