Fionna and Cake 2x7 Uncut Reaction

They are SO gay.

What's funny is yesterday I watched a reaction to this episode and as soon as the firemen showed up I realized "aw shit it's the water nymphs." That's really good analysis on Phelix, and I didn't catch the hair witch reference either!

14:38 - The Firemen are the Water Nymphs which is absolutely hilarious. They were in a few adventure time episodes in various capacities. The one that jumps out at me in my memory is Season 6 Episode 13 "Thanks for the Crabapples, Giuseppe!" where they join Abracandaniel's tour bus and are in most of the episode. 11:55 - And I know you didn't mention it or even ask about it but this is another deep deep cut. The blink and you miss it cameo of the hairdresser about to cut M-Cron's hair is the Fionna-world version of the ugly evil Tree Witch that wanted some princess hair in AT Season 2 Episode 10 "To Cut a Woman's Hair," which is also notable for being the very first time in the series that Finn removes his hat and reveals his long hair (which is immediately cut and given to the tree witch - hence the Fionna world version having a full head of hair). I didn't like this one as much as the last one because while both Fionna and Huntress are kind of train wrecks in their personal lives Fionna's is just a bit too real to be really enjoyable, I definitely had the same cringing reaction to her hangups with Phelix. I did like that we finally see a flawed version of Phelix as in the previous episodes he's just been a polite helpful guy and it was hard to reconcile that with his canon dumping of his GF of six months, Fionna, via text message. But in this episode we finally see some flaws, mainly that he's just self-centered and insensitive. We see that he forgets the sound check and even more importantly than that is that he ghosts Fennel and disappears without saying anything to her for 24 hours which you just don't do to your partner. If I didn't come home one night without saying anything my partner would have a heart attack in worry and then be rightfully pissed at me when I did eventually make it back. He pretty clearly just doesn't understand how his actions affect other people. Which is actually a really interesting parallel I think to when Finn and Phoebe first start interacting in that Phoebe literally hurts Finn by burning him but not on purpose just by her very nature as a fire elemental. Phelix does the same thing but the burn is emotional because of the mundane nature of their world. I don't think he means to do it, but he just hurts the people around him by his nature. (Which doesn't excuse it I should add - I don't want to be seen as forgiving insensitivity or anything - just explains it.)
