The Gardener of Seoraksan: Angkor

Seung Min-Joon, also known as Angkor, makes his debut in Stained Glass, the second book of the Hound of Eden series. He is one of the most complex and enigmatic of the characters in the series, possessing layers and layers of secrets behind what first seems like an open, sensuous demeanor.

Angkor is a word that means 'walled city' or 'fortress'. He chose the nickname because it embodies possession of his own body and a strong foundation of identity, something that he has had to fight for most of his life.

Born in South Korea in 1998 (yes, this is correct: even though Blood Hound and Stained Glass are set in 1991), Angkor is much older than he looks - and more alien, for that matter. He is introduced in Stained Glass at the mercy of The Deacon, one of the primary antagonists of the series, and is rescued by Alexi and the Twin Tigers Motorcycle Club from a fate worse than death.

The least of Angkor's secrets are related to his body. He was born intersex, assigned female, and transitioned back to male as an adult. He is also a cancer survivor - he spent most of his childhood in hospital with bone cancer. He discovered - and learned - a lot of his magic while under anesthesia, where his Neshamah was able to contact him in periods of twilight sleep. He is a specialized biomancer - a mage who works exclusively with the energy, matter and manipulation of living things.

Angkor's long career includes everything from medical research to bank heists, espionage and paramilitary work. As for who he works for and why... you will have to read the series and find out.
