Skimmed through the comments and I didn't see the answer - the LotR trilogy was filmed entirely in New Zealand. Hobbiton itself was built on a 14 acre farm and was restored/rebuilt in 2010 (when they filmed The Hobbit movies) and is available for tours. Absolutely ridiculous amount of work. It's been a long time since I've seen these films and it's a bit startling to see Elijah Wood like this again - he was only 18 when they started filming Fellowship of the Ring.

All of my favourite scenes are in these extended ones :) Don't understand how anyone can watch the theatre cuts ever!
