Back when Azula took over Ba Sing Se, when she was disguised as a Kiyoshi warrior, the Earth King thinking she was on their side spilled that they were planning an invasion during the upcoming eclipse. The fire nation didn't know the details of what was being planned, just that something was. And then they basically never mention it again on the Fire Nations side, making the viewers feel a false sense of security. Very masterfully done.
