I don't think their not redeeming Azula makes the show runners cowards? The ending we had makes absolute sense with her character. In fact, I think redeeming her would actually defy some of the point of her character. Her "redemption" is simply the fact she is very ill, a byproduct of being a gifted child with a crazy father and a mother who wasn't prioritizing said gifted child.

2023-12-02 03:31:07 +0000 UTCThe thing that messed with Azula's head was her two best friends "betraying" her. That's what made her so paranoid and and frantic. She'd lost her confidence in herself because something she relied on suddenly failed her.

2023-12-02 03:22:57 +0000 UTCI feel so genuinely bad for Azula. Like she’s crazy and a villain but I cannot even blame her for it with how she was raised. I feel like the show runners could have done some fun *sortof* redemption shit for her if they weren’t cowards. That being said her shooting that lightning at katara was ruthless. I was howling at the damn tv when this aired. My baby self had his little mind blown. The animation on all the fire in this episode still gets me stunned and slack jawed. It’s aged so phenomenally imo. Overall just such a good story. I like the other battles too though! Aang v Ozai had me biting my nails and the white lotus retaking ba sing se got me gripping the edge of my seat! AND sokkas genius…mwah chefs kiss I do really wish y’all had dropped all these finale episodes together since they were bundled as a four parter when they aired, but I understand wanting to space out content for the patreon and such :) I eagerly await ep 21!
