So, fun fact, no, Izumi did not come check on them, however, when she left them on the island, she left a friend with them, in secret. Her friend dressed like he was some wild native of the island, and usually attacked them, but his job was to make sure the boys didn't die. There was a hunger incident before Ed tried to eat Al where he was afraid the boys would die of hunger and fed them some of his fish. So, although brotherhood skipped over that detail, she did not leave them unattended.
