If you watched ATLA or TLOK, it’s basically that. Just imagine Kid Piccolo is Aang & King Piccolo is Avatar Roku. Reincarnations of the same person that have their own different personalities, but linked by spirit and memory. As for the kid, from now on just call him Piccolo. That’s his name

The English dub back in the day didn’t want to use religious terms, so they used the Japanese word untranslated and pretended it was a name. Once you realize that, then of course all the other characters would know who God is and would not believe Goku could meet their god. Since Kai onwards, the English dub doesn’t censor anymore. Korin and Kami are the first two gods (deities) you meet in DB, but Kami is higher in the hierarchy of gods than Korin
