Kroft mentioned his motivations for believing in the goddess is in part to a need to believe that the impact we have being remembered by something eternal. Everyone who knows of his deeds have all passed. The same thing will happen to Himmel. As with Kroft, statues may be eternal but people still don't remember. And even Frieren, who remembers him, she'll pass too. Even with a memorable name like Gorilla Warrior, we still fade - Frieren still exists and not everyone recognizes her name. Trying to be remembered is futile - so I'm looking forward to the writer eventually delivering on this theme and contrasting against what of us IS eternal.

He said she wouldn't recognize the village, and even when he talked about her to Himmel, it gave the impression that the villagers of that time 80 years ago didn't even know about her, so I'd guess she would be older than a great grandmother to the people of that time (not that it seems like they had kids). Like she was the sort of age where the oldest of the village wouldn't even know about her. Like they were little kids when she passed, or she passed before then. No one knew why he chose that village to guard. I think it must've been in his early or middle life, but probably on the early side. As for what the look of Frieren's face was on that hill, I think it was her recognizing his senile act wasn't actually all an act. He was genuinely slipping. Plus, sitting on a hill looking at the stars next to him might have felt a bit like her last moment with Himmel. Between all she's learned so far about coveting memories and how Voll just taught her that her memories of a face and voice could actually fade someday, she was taking a moment to study him more intently to actively make a stronger memory. She even says something along those lines. I think she wishes she looked at Himmel closer on that hill instead of the star display she can see every 50 years.
