The Original Champion Chapter 5

Chapter 5: Testing out


It had been three weeks since the Mikaelsons became immortal, three weeks of hiding for Leif.


In his anger, he buried himself amongst the books in Ayana's library and spent the entirety of the twenty-one day inside of it.


'Loki, God of Mischief and Trickery. A God that even the other Gods are afraid of— because of his antics.' Leif turned the page. 'A God possessing the ability to command others, shapeshift, create illusions, survive the great cold and control fire.'


After days of trying to figure out his link with Loki, he discovered that he possessed a minuscule amount of the powers that the God of Mischief possessed. He didn't feel cold, he was not bothered by submerging himself in the ice-cold water of the nearby lake and his physical abilities improved to the point of uprooting a tree with his bare hands. 


He felt a weird link with fire whenever he was near it. And all these changes about him made it pretty clear to him that he was either blessed or cursed by Loki. And considering it was the God of Mischief he was talking about— he leaned towards the latter.


'But a Champion, huh?' 


After going through half the library, he found a book that briefly described a Champion. A Champion of God was a being that was blessed by a God with a fraction of their powers. The Champions carried the will of Gods and are said to have appeared in the form of Heroes, Judges, Oracles, Kings, Prophets, Warriors or even as Statesmen. Apostles are the most common Champion of God but there is yet to be a record about a God's Champion.


He didn't know what Loki wanted from him and if he had to guess, it was not going to be something pretty. However, he was given a second chance with power and he was not going to waste it.


The Mikaelson family had become immortal and he wasn't sure if he possessed immortality. He did a few tests like pricking himself and to his surprise, the tiny wound healed instantly. Which meant that he could heal, yet that was not enough and he was not stupid enough to kill himself to test his immortality. 


He was going to need Ayana to cast a spell to check if he was immortal. 


'But even before that…' 


He took out a book from the drawer. It was a purple book with the symbol of a four-leaf clover drawn over it.


It was a spellbook, a special detailed one.


He went through every spell in the book and tried casting every single one of them— and failed every time. 


that made no sense to Leif as he expected to be able to use a few spells after becoming Loki' Champion. Loki was great at using his magic but Leif couldn't even feel the magic. And that made him a little disappointed.


Closing the book, he took a deep breath. It was not going to be easy dealing with a bunch of immortals. And he had to figure out his powers and their weaknesses soon or it was going to be a massive problem for him. 


He didn't even know his own weaknesses either but from a rough guess, he figured it was going to be something like poison. Since he didn't know when Ragnarok was supposed to take place, he dissed the idea of Heimdall killing Loki. So the second closest thing he guessed might be able to kill him was venom.


Loki was punished for plotting Baldur's murder and that led to him being tied and punished by having venom from a snake poured into his mouth while his limbs were tied. 


But Leif wasn't sure what kind of poison might affect him and it made him quite sceptical of every venom.


'I have yet to figure out if I can use illusion, compulsion and shapeshifting.' He knew for a fact that he had an affinity with ice and fire but he had yet to figure out a way to make use of them.


The best he could do now was train and come up with ways to deal with the Mikaelsons. Just the name was enough to send him into a frenzy but he did his best to remain calm as it would only cause him trouble.

[Days Later]


Leif had learnt from Ayana that Tatia was killed by Elijah. And Esther had erased his memories of the event. 


Leif didn't care about the girl but he knew that the Mikaelsons had turned into something that was impossible to change back from.


*GROWL*


"*Sigh* Fine, come at me."


Leif stood before an enraged grizzly that was hunting for food.


*ROAR*


It darted towards him but Leif had hunted bears in the past and now with his newfound powers, it was far too easy.


The bear tried to crush Leif with its weight, yet it couldn't even make Leif stumble. 


"Pathetic." 


Leif punched the bear right over its head, which cracked its skull. But Leif wasn't done just yet, He grabbed the bear by its jaws and tore it in half using his strength.


It was an impossible feat for a human but he figured he wasn't a human anymore. 


He looked around himself and found a few birds staring at him from a tree.


He smiled and stared right into their eyes. And within moments, their pupils dilated— which indicated that they were now under his compulsion.


After days of researching, he finally figured out a way to control others. As long as a being stared into his eyes, he knew that he could control them. However, he knew that there had to be a better way to use his compulsion.


'I just need to figure out how.'


He commanded the birds to locate more bears and wild beasts. The birds followed his commands and flew over the forest, scouting the area. When they found something, they would signal Leif and Leif dashed towards them with his superhuman strength. 


This led to him slaughtering anything that he came across. 


He learned that he was losing his ability to feel sympathy, compassion or remorse. And he didn't mind that change, he wished to make the Mikaelsons suffer and before achieving that goal, he had no wish of being distracted by feelings.


After clearing the forest of bears and being drenched in blood, he made his way towards Ayana's house. There was something important that he had to discuss with her.

The Bennet witches were known for possessing a great affinity with the spirits and nature which made them superior to the other witches at using magic. And Ayana was considered to be the greatest Bennet witch to be born within their coven. 


However, she was not all-knowing. If she was —she would have never let Esther dabble into the Dark Arts or let Leif suffer. 


She learnt that Leif was not affected by dark magic instead it was something entirely different. It was a mystical force that she had never felt before and she didn't know if it was good or evil. 


"The spirits hate you, Leif. So, be careful." She warned the golden-haired man. 'But nature loves him and it makes no sense. Nature and spirits are always interlinked and for one to hate him while the other treats him like a son… It's ridiculous.'


"I know Ayana and do not worry. I will be careful." He assured the witch.


She sighed and looked at the blonde lovingly. "Are you certain that you have to leave?"


To Ayana, Leif was no less than family— He was like a son to her. And even Leif respected Ayana greatly.


"I have to. The Mikaelsons are growing more blood-thirstier with each day and it will only be a matter of time before they find me. So, I need to leave and you know about my changes. I need to travel to figure them out. But I promise that if you ever need me. I will be there for you."


Ayana had done a lot for him and he was willing to return the favour if needed.


Ayana sighed and gave him a little smile. "You are special, Leif… remember that. Do not let vengeance and hate corrupt your soul." She pulled out a ring from one of her fingers. "Take this. It will help you in the future."


Leif smiled at the good luck charm that Ayana gave him. Expressing his gratitude, he took the ring and wore it on his index finger. 


"I will see you one day, Ayana." He hugged the woman. "Thank you for everything."


He smiled and vanished from the room at a speed that she couldn't notice.


Ayana had a sad smile on her face as she noticed the newly transformed person leaving her house. 


'Be safe, Leif. Nature will protect you.'
