"Olympus?"
"Yeah… Olympus."
I gazed at the stars as Magnus stood shocked behind me. The night view from my house just so happened to be perfect and it always managed to calm me whenever I had been worried.
A wonder that I discovered with Peggy.
"I do not understand." Magnus said. "Why would there be any relation with the Greek gods?"
Nowadays, it was rare for me to not have an answer. And this moment just happened to be one when I didn't have the answer.
"I don't know." But I had a smile. "At least I now have a little clue, don't I?"
"I…"
"You are a grown man now, Magnus. I understand that you are worried about your father, but I can handle myself. All this time you have been looking after me, I know. Cleaning the mess I left and making sure that there was no one that could take advantage of my mistakes."
He seemed a bit shocked at the fact I knew of his recent doings. I knew a lot but I didn't know enough. And it was when people like him… people that I could trust unconditionally came to play.
"I am proud of you, son. You have surpassed my expectations far ago and you keep surpassing them." I said in a genuine tone. "But you can relax a little. Or you will end up like Joel."
Joel, sigh. I don't even get time to see that guy. He is always busy with his work…
A total workaholic.
"It's… it's nothing." He seemed a bit flushed. "A son is there to support his father and you fulfilled all my wishes as a kid. So now it's my responsibility to help you with yours."
I looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "You sure talk like a grown man now."
He paused. "That's because I am a grown man."
Both of us stared at each other before bursting out laughing.
That's right, he is a grown man now.
…
…
[S.H.I.E.L.D Quarters, Oshkosh]
"Are you sure that you don't need the files, sir?"
It was a woman that seemed to be in her early twenties, however I didn't know her name.
"No, it's alright." I gave her a smile. "I already know about him."
She was working under Maria Hill and was dispatched to help me look for a certain person. However it was unnecessary as I knew about this person even more than S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Wendell Vaughn."
The woman nodded. "Born in Wisconsin but raised here in Oshkosh. Previously part of the US Army and now a soldier of S.H.I.E.L.D. However, his record is nothing special."
She seemed amused at why an unremarkable man managed to draw my attention.
"Don't worry about it, agent. Just make sure that if any important calls come my way… say that I am busy."
"Yes, Sir!"
Immediately going down the carrier, I walked towards a facility owned by S.H.I.E.L.D. S.H.I.E.L.D now had way too many facilities that it was difficult even for me to keep track.
'So, this is where the child you talked about is?'
A chilling yet alluring voice asked. A voice that I can never forget.
'It is.' I said telepathically. 'I never break my promise, Lady Infinity.'
The cosmic being didn't respond. I was beyond shocked when she appeared in my head last night to ask about the promise and if it was time I could fulfil it.
And truthfully, it was.
"He is capable of holding the Quantum Beads." I said. "And he has a pure heart which means he is perfect to be your avatar."
I calmly walked inside the facility and since my position was already known by the masses, they gave way for me without a word.
"Good Morning, sir." Greeted an officer. "We were not informed that you were visiting."
Casually waving the man off, I said. "I am here to pick something. You all can continue."
The man was surprised but as I was someone with far greater authority, he nodded and backed off.
"You can call me if you need anything, sir. I will be there."
These officers loved licking boots but maybe they thought it would help them climb the social ladder.
'Where is the boy that you were talking about?'
She was interested in the person I chose as her avatar.
Who technically I didn't.
I knew where he was. I had so many abilities that some of them subconsciously guided me towards the things I required.
And the current situation was no different.
I walked down through the corridor to find myself in a room with a massive glass window. It was a viewing facility and below it was a training room with a bunch of S.H.I.E.L.D soldiers practising their fight skills.
'Is this where he is?' Infinity questioned, scouting the area through my eyes.
"He is."
And just as I said that, I saw a guy throwing a punch towards a soldier —knocking him to the corner of the room.
"And we didn't have to look hard for him."
He was blonde, well built and—
'Strong.'
"Mhm."
He moved faster than any of the other soldiers. He was a human but his movements were far more agile than the trained agents.
"He is experienced." I said, remembering his history in the US army.
Infinity seemed curious.
'If he is so talented and experienced, why does he not possess a higher rank?'
It was a good question. But—
"The answer is quite simple."
Wendell slammed another soldier onto the ground, making Infinity even more impressed.
'And what is that?'
"He is skilled however he lacks something that is required to climb the ranks."
Infinity's curiosity grew.
The training required the soldiers to knock out one another, however when Wendell was about to finish the fight with a punch.
The soldier on the ground acted weak.
"Ruthlessness."
Wendell instead of landing the finishing blow, got off and walked back.
"Big mistake."
The soldier —taking advantage of this— swiftly kicked Wendell on the shin, making him lose his balance and allowing the other soldiers to surround him.
But this was more than we needed to see.
*Clap* *Clap*
"That's enough."
And just like that, I drew their attention.
Allowing Infinity to look straight at her future avatar.
Wendell Vaughn.
