Chapter 74: Marcellus' Quest

Fighting against devils, youkai, and all the supernatural beings in existence, Kento had almost forgotten how fragile a human life could be.


'After becoming a supernatural being myself, I nearly forgot what it means to be a human.' He felt a little disappointed in himself as while he was still a human and was humane, he had forgotten how weak a human could be.


And possibly {Horo-Kanu} wasn't necessarily needed to take them down.


His stat points were still the same, and it was just his skills that were locked.


The moment he underestimated the capability of {Horo-Kanu}, he popped a guard's head like a watermelon.


And when he decided to switch to basic combat and decided to land a basic chop to the neck of another guard, that guy's neck cracked –killing him instantly.


'Not killing them while fighting is more difficult than fighting any Youkai…'


In a way, he related to these guards.


They were simply doing their job. They were paid to protect this place, and they were doing nothing wrong.


He was on a mission, a quest that he had to complete.


And he wasn't even sure what he might have to face if he failed.


In a way, both parties were doing their jobs, what they were meant to do.


So while he did feel bad that he had to kill these innocent guards, things had to be done that way.


Both were just doing what needed to be done.


But to minimize the casualties, he dragged the body of the guard whose neck he broke with him.


His goal was Adam, he was the one whom Kento needed to get rid of.


Dragging the guard with him was a way to destroy the morale of the guards and possibly make them stop firing.


And it had worked to a certain extent as the firings had slowed by a lot.


Most by seeing their number reducing with just a single attack and the other after realizing that they cannot hit the man in front of them.


He was too fast for them, too strong.


And as Kento walked around the place, dragging a dead man with one hand, he found one of the people that he was looking for.


Someone that had tear stains on her face, her hair a mess and even seemed to have lost quite a bit of weight.


"It's been a while," He said, "Lady Winters."


Despite the condition she was in, she was still gorgeous. 


'Beauty cannot be ruined in a day unless you actively try to do so.'


"Or considering the situation," He wasn't a person who was under anyone now, "I should call you Luna."


He worked for no one.


But as the guards noticed that Luna was outside, they knew that they couldn't let the man anywhere near her.


"ATTACK!" One of the guards yelled, "DO NOT LET HIM NEAR MADAME LUNA!"


And sadly, this led to Kento realizing that there was no saving them.


He showed them a sad smile, "I know you are doing what you are supposed to do. So know that I am also doing what I am supposed to do."


And with that, there was a beast that was unleashed.

Luna was stunned, she was shocked, and she was horrified.


Never did she know it was humanly possible to move at such speed and to show such brutality.


Elijah had obliterated the men that Adam had stationed in the manor. He cut them down with his hands, removed their heads and blasted holes through them.


All while dodging bullets.


A scene that felt like a movie to her, fictional without a bit of reality in it.


But it was all real, it was happening all in front of her. 


And the man that she adored was the one that was doing that.


He wasn't the knight in shining armor, he was the reaper in blood that was consuming blood like a god of death.


Slicing off the head of the head guard, he looked at her, a smile that did not match his handsome blood-stained face.


"I apologize that you had to witness such a scene, Luna," He said, dropping the last body on the ground as he stared at her.


But she did not care what he did.


She did not care that he had just killed dozens of men, neither did she care that he was soaked in blood.


All she cared about was that it was him, it was Elijah.


Without a second thought, without a hint of fear –she ran at him.


And while he knew that she wasn't in her right mindset, he couldn't help but let her do what she wanted.


And with that, she jumped at him, hugging him as tightly as she could.


"Y-You are alive," She felt her tears finally falling down, "You are s-safe."


She was finally able to lean onto someone.


She could finally be weak, and she could finally show weakness.


Kento knew it very well that she was merely a chess piece in Adam's game, even without her knowledge, she was being played.


As much as she blamed herself for his death, he was well aware that it was him that got entangled in a power struggle.


When she first hired him, it was without any prior knowledge of what was to follow.


They were simply the employer and the employee which led to catastrophic results for the employee.


And because of that, Kento did not hate Luna.


So, he decided to return the hug by embracing her softly.


"It's alright, everything will be better now." He assured her, "You are free now."


This made her grip onto him tighten, "No… She bit her lips."


Kento showed a comforting smile before placing his hand over her head, "You can escape."


He gave her a choice, but she declined. Aware that it wasn't viable as no matter where she went, Adam would find her.


"No," She whispered, "But you should run."


She realized what had happened and she knew that Adam would learn about this soon and that it would not end well for either of them.


"Adam will be here anytime," She pushed him back a little. She did not want him to suffer another time because of her.


She knew that if he kept getting involved, she might truly end up losing him, this time around.


And she did not want that. She was already guilty of getting him involved; she could not see him dying for her.


Surprisingly, he laughed before patting her on the head.


"It's alright, he can do nothing to me." He assured, but as Luna was about to argue, he reminded her.


"Did you not see what I just did in here?"


She froze immediately recalling the scene she witnessed. Because of the shock factor of seeing him alive and the joy she felt at being close to him again, she had forgotten the gruesome scene that she just witnessed.


No human was capable of what he just did.


She asked, "H-How did you do that?"


He placed a finger over her lips before answering, "Magic."
