Changes coming in November
Added 2023-09-27 20:00:09 +0000 UTCHi folks, just a heads up as I'm looking to set up memberships over on YouTube at the moment. I'm structuring that with 3 tiers, £0.99 for 'general support', £3.99 for early access videos, and £6.99 for members only videos.
I haven't started doing the members only videos yet but it's an idea I've had since the beginning of the year and just not implemented over here (procrastination mostly 🙄 my bad), but they'll be around 15-20 min videos with games and more personal content like trivia or Q&As. Over time I'd look to involve questions from the community too. I'd add this on Patreon in the same way as a 6.99 tier.
All this being said it makes sense to tailor Patreon in the same way so that one isn't getting more perks than the other for the same money. I've registered the tiers on YouTube in £ while I was an idiot and registered prices in $ over here. Because of that, and like I say to keep things equal, I'm going to change the prices on here from $s to £s starting in November. It would work out as costing slightly more money because of the conversion so I wanted to give everyone plenty of time to change or cancel their membership over here if that didn't suit anyone. Sorry for the kerfuffle.
I'll be looking to sort out YT memberships asap so things will remain the same for Patreon for a while to give everyone over here lots of time to decide what to do and so I'm not just changing everything without notice. I hope as well that this change offers a little more for those that want it than just early access.
Full disclosure, I know there'll be badges for how long you've been a member on YouTube that'll display next to your name for however long you've been a member, along with emojis as well that I'll (Sonera) will be customising, which will be available to all 3 tiers. I don't see a way to translate that perk over here so that will be a YT only perk.
If there are any questions about this feel free to put them below, Nothing over here will be changing as such other than another tier being added at some point and the conversion from $ to £ at the start of November.

I think being a YouTube member would be more convenient for me. I usually end up watching the videos when they come out on YouTube rather than when they come out on Patreon out of convenience. But it's a shame that YouTube takes a larger percentage, as I'm a member more out of support than for perks.

2023-10-02 20:46:37 +0000 UTCFrom what I've read YouTube takes a larger cut (30% from what Google tells me, to Patreon's 5%-12%), but honestly I'd say choose which ever suits you best. The thought process on my side is that I know some people just won't go to an external site which rules out Patreon for some people, and having the same thing on YT would make it more readily available in the hope I'd get more support across the board, plus with the extra tier hopefully adding extra revenue. With that in mind I'd hope to see a slight uptick in revenue anyway, so I'd say put that out of your mind and do what's best for yourself and your preference. The idea from my perspective would be to earn that deficit back in extra revenue from the added tier/wider availability 😊
