Finding out if the Sequel is BETTER | First Time Watching ALIENS (1986)

Comments

Even though I still love the first movie the best, it is a very good sequel. It's just that I prefer the horror in Alien compared to the action in Aliens. Like you said the xenomorphe looses a bit of its charisma and it's less fear-inducing when it is destroyed this easily. The reproducing cycle of the Xeno is also less interesting by introducing the idea of a queen which lay eggs (not a very original idea) compared to the asexual reproduction in the first movie (though it's not explained in details). The original idea was that Xenos are a two-hosts parasites. The face hugger comes from an egg and infects the first host. Then the chest burster emerges from the host and, through an accelerate growth, becomes a fully adult Xeno. By biting its prey with its double mouth, it infects a second host who will transform into an egg (we can see a little part of the transformation in the director's cut from the first movie). When Kane enters the room filled with eggs in the derelict ship, it's actually a graveyard more than a nursery as each egg was a former host. I think it is way cooler and creepier than the queen idea (although I admit I like its design). At last, I want to acknowledge the character development of Ripley and the others during the movie. It is well written and all the actors do a really fine job (especially Sigourney of course). Kudos also to the kid actress who plays Newt as often child actors are not especially very good. I find her acting to be excellent throughout all the movie. Concerning the sequels, I find movies 3 & 4 not as good as the first two but they each try to do something different from the previous ones so you don't have the impression of watching the same thing over and over again. Concerning the prequels, I am in the minority but I love Prometheus (probably my second favorite movie of the saga after Alien) especially because it goes back to the horror that was a big part of the first movie. It is also an incredible visual experience (especially in theaters, with one the best 3D ever made). But it is easier to appreciate it by considering it less as a prequel and more as an independent movie located in the same universe. The same thing goes for Alien Covenant but is clearly not as good as Prometheus. So, as you certainly understand, I hope you will continue to watch the saga. As always I love all your comments and thoughts about this movie and I am glad to have become a member on your patreon.

I'm a fan of both these films. I think I mentioned in comments for Alien that I saw it way too young. But this one came out when I was in high school, and was so cool in the theater. Do your heart a favor, and stop here with the Alien franchise, lol. The next films ruin it all. I really enjoyed seeing these movies again through your eyes.

I love both films although I saw Alien when I was really young ( having much older siblings who also introduced me to Terminator one of my favourite films directed by James Cameron ).Alien felt really dark and oppressive and it took me a second viewing to really appreciate it. Another Scott film I love is Bladerunner i'm from the same area as Ridley Scott (and his late brother Tony) his aesthetic for Blade runner was based on the local industry so if you haven't seen that it would be a good reaction. Aliens is a totally different experience for me it's an absolute adrenaline rush Sigourney Weaver is iconic in the role.

Hope you enjoy! 😄
