This episode reminds us just how selfless and a great person Buffy is :')

you tearing up made me tear up and now I'm cryin over that umbrella for the I don't know how many'th time. 2 Episodes of the season left! No spoilers- but as a massive Supernatural fan, I can let you know that Buffy doesn't do the same thing Supernatural does. Season 4 is my least fav. season but I still like it. But you'll understand when you cross that bridge.

I love this episode! Sit back and enjoy the ride of the final 2 parter episodes. They are iconic as most finales are. Buffy does better finales than almost any other television show. Also a tip with dream Sequences in Buffy, there is so much symbolism and details throughout the dreams that are 100% intentionally placed. The slayer dream sequences are almost always prophetic but not always literal. It’s like Buffys prophetic dreams in surprise. These and a bunch of events prior to Innocence were vaguely foreshadowing what was going to happen. Not that you can predict it overtly. As you move forward this is even more the case. Not that they spoil the actual event, as they won’t allow you to predict it, but when the event happens if you remember those little pieces, it’s quite an experience. It’s also really cool after events happen to go back to the dreams as you often see details you didn’t see before…..this and hidden meaning through dialogue (lots of dialogue directly reflects certain existential and absurdist ideas and meanings including lie to me and amends.) It’s honestly quite incredible storytelling and makes rewatches so damn good as you pick up so much you previously missed. Even certain shots in episodes foreshadow events. It’s something the show does that sets it apart from other shows. So enjoy! I can’t wait to see what you think from here on.

His name is Tove Christensen/Kingsbury and he’s credited as “tux guy;” I’m not sure if they’re referring to the one who got mauled in the store or the one at the dance who asks, “bathroom?” But I assume it’s the second since he has a speaking line/credit (and he looks more like Hayden, IMO).

Ooh, I didn't know THAT!! 😂 I love it!

Always a treat to see Buffy get the recognition she deserves in this episode. The fact that Jonathan is the one to give her the award, the umbrella to symbolise her role as a protector, the way this comes just as she's given up on getting a high school moment to remember - all perfect. And completely agree with what you say about the themes of this season being especially strong. I find some of the early parts of season 3 a bit weaker (mainly the Willow/Xander storyline) but the second half is so brilliantly executed. No spoilers, but I'm definitely looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the themes of Season 4/Season 1 of Angel!

WHAT? That’s crazy, I never knew that! I also just recently learned that Hayden Christensen’s brother is an extra in this episode. The more you know. 😂

Calling season four a transition season is spot on; it really does bridge the two eras, just like you said. It’s always so interesting to me to see people’s rankings of the seasons because they’re all over the place - you can learn a lot about a person by asking them to rank the Buffy seasons. 😂

Shannon

Love this! I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the trajectory of Buffy Big Bads. Season four, in my opinion, stumbles a bit but I give them leniency for certain reasons. Overall, though? Banger after banger. Shoutout to the people who laughed when he asked “where do we go from here?” IYKYK. 😂

Beautiful! I will never not cry at this episode❤

Like everyone else, I really enjoy this episode for the Class Protector scene. I am so glad that Buffy is acknowledged by her peers. I'm sure she knows that all she is sacrificing day after day is not in vain but the fact that others know it too and are grateful for that is the best reward she could have had. I never was a Bangel shipper so I'm glad that we are moving on from that but I have to admit that the break up scene and later at the prom was handled very well (and props to SMG as usual for stellar acting). Last but not least, this is my favorite Xander moment so far in the show. Not only he protected Cordy physically but he also protected her secret. And in top of that he offered her the thing she really wanted to have at that point. We know that Xander does not come from a wealthy family so buying this dress was a big deal for him. He probably used at least part of the money he intended to use for his trip across the US. And it is a great way to apologize to Cordelia. I mean what can be better for Cordelia forgiving Xander that buying her a dress? I don't think this means in any way that they gonna be together again but it may be the end of all the mean things they were telling each other for most of the season and maybe the beginning of a new friendship. As for your questions about season 4, my lips are sealed but I will only say that, while still being the same show at its core, there definitely will be a different vibe next season. Just know that it is a divisive season amongst BTVS fans. Some are really big lovers of the high school years and didn't appreciate the later seasons as much. For others, it is the opposite. For me, I see season 4 as a transition between 2 eras of the show, while being its own thing. Writers and directors (and of course showrunners) had more space to try something new and IMO some hit and some missed. I am curious to see what is going to be your feelings about it. But first thing first, the season 3 finale is near and it's gonna be quite a ride!

Fun fact! The guy that played Tucker Wells did the singing voice of Aladdin in the Disney movie

When Buffy says, “I want my life to be with you” and Angel replies, “ I don’t”, I always read it that he doesn’t want Buffy’s life to be with him. Not that he doesn’t want his life to be with her. It’s a subtle distinction but less hurtful in my opinion. He wants to be with her but he wants more for her. He loves her enough to let her go (which is what Joyce was counting on).

Hearing your musings of where the season finale can go makes me so excited to see your reactions. I may have to wait til you have the last 2 episodes for S3 released and watch them back to back. 😎

One of the best episodes of Buffy. All those questions about whether people knew what was happening answered. Buffy gets the recognition she needed to hear. To me this was her going into the light. She had always said that she couldn’t be like normal girls, and that she was always in the dark with demons but this was the moment she realizes she can do both she can have both. As much as I’ve seen the show and this episode over the years it never fails to make me cry. This gets me excited for you watching every episode that’s coming up until the show ends and so many moments still to come. ☮️💟
