For example, the Starks find a Stag (deer) killed by a Dire Wolf, which in turn was killed by the Stag. Kind of reeks of foreshadowing. By the way, the little white worms on the deer are called maggots in English. Tyrion's nickname is "the Imp", which is a small, trouble-making demon. Others have covered the meaning of 'bastard' which was used differently in the past. William the Conqueror, the Norman prince who took over England and changed the course of the English language, was also known as William the Bastard, and not because he was mean.
