Hi Guys,
Ava here!
In this week’s video, we finally reveal the new name of the catamaran and it’s… Spiffy! 🎉
We thought long and hard about this one, and it just feels right. It’s short and sweet—great for hailing on the radio, checking into ports, and most importantly, she is (and will be) a pretty dang spiffy boat when we’re done with her.
Also in this episode, Mads installs our new Quick chain counter (game changer!), and “Captain Dumb-Dumb” makes an appearance while installing the depth sounder… you'll see.
Now for a real-time update. I’ve decided to stay an extra month. It’s bittersweet—we were really hoping to splash sooner, but it’s clear that won’t be happening right away, and we had to make a call. On the bright side, I’ll (hopefully) still get to help move the boat north with Mads!
That said, we’re losing a month of income, and honestly, it’s been a frustrating week trying to get any clear timeline from the yard. We’re fully ready. The ball’s in their court now—they just seem to operate on a mysterious schedule of their own.
Some good news. Our new chain and anchor arrived and are officially aboard Spiffy! Huge thanks to our friend Tim (you’ll meet him in today's video), who helped get everything delivered and even dropped it off using his mini Japanese truck—adorable and efficient. I definitely saw a glint in Mads’ eye when Tim pulled up in his little truck, but I told him not to get any ideas—one truck project is enough.
Speaking of the truck, progress there too! Mads and Dave swapped the fuel pump and got her running again. We stripped the cab completely—carpet and what was left of the dash—just in time to send her to the mechanic for a new AC system. The shop was a little confused why we wanted AC in a truck with no dashboard… but don’t worry, it’s on order, and soon she’ll be just as Spiffy.
If all goes well, we’ll pick the truck up today, install new carpet this weekend, and maybe even do a run up to North Carolina to drop off some of our stuff—just trying to stay productive while we wait.
Thank you all for your kind words and support, especially over the last week. It really means so much. We’ll keep you posted if anything changes with the splash date!
Stay spiffy,
Ava 😊
