Kim's dialectical materialist approach to cybernetics is enabled by her privileged access to the tools and training for augmentation. The exode Bat-Girl could only afford to enhance toward a single idealized task because she had to rely on the labor of experts in order to enhance at all, and expert labor is a premium resource with a premium price tag. If the capability of unlimited self-modification were commonplace, then everyone could enjoy Kim's self-improvement-environment feedback dialogue. That would be a fun world, where everyone's body and mind are expressions of their current art and sense of purpose.
