Some of those weren't really true rockets as much as earlier versions of what we call cruise missiles today. The Air Force Snark and the Navy's Rugulus were both turbojet powered. Both also used a solid fuel rocket motor as a booster to get them up to speed. Just as today the Air Force and the Navy were always competing with one another to see who had the most capable weapon delivery system.

Fantastic Felix! So happy you made best use of your extended stay at Cape Canaveral, while waiting for the D1-20 launch, to take in every available tour as well as self touring the local area. The icing on the cake for you and Sammy was seeing the night launch of the Falcon 9/ Dragon 20, the spectacular boostback burn produced "Falcon Nebula", entry burn, landing burn, the booster touchdown followed by the powerful double sonic boom with thunder like rumble that lasted several seconds. There is no other way describe (written articles orrecorded audio & video) that can replicate the human experience of being as close to an actual launch as NASA and the 45th. Air Force space wing will allow. This is an absolutely jaw dropping experience! Looking forward to seeing more of your fine work of art and technical facts in your upcomming episodes! You Rock!
