They have something like 160+ songs so I think you probably just need to listen to more. Title tracks in general are meant to be catchy and I love them all but their b-sides are exquisite. Really enjoying your reactions! It’s like taking the journey all over again. Also Chan’s inspiration for 4419 was his friend BamBam from GOT7 who he was a trainee with but who “left him behind” to debut with GOT7. There was nothing like toxic about the relationship. He just moved ahead and Chan felt left behind. They’re still friends.

Prebut Han, IN and Lee Know did have their established stage names so the names reflex their birth names. For an album that they wrote and produced while preparing to debut and working on a reality show that they could get cut on and, oh yeah, were only 16-20 years old and some were still in school -- not bad. You might like watching their survival show to see how they started. Also, they have album "intros" and they explain the music more. Last, their turn up songs are pretty clever but most importantly they are about being yourself and not measuring to others and/or clapping back at haters. So for me, I see more meaning in them than maybe others do. Thank you so much for exploring them. I love your reviews and mix that with them is a great combo for me. ty

I guess it depends on what you consider substance. Their most recent songs may be braggadocios as they flex in their confidence, but they are filled with brilliant flows and Korean wordplay. Songs like 3Racha, SSick, Freeze, Cheese, Thunderous, Charmer. Other songs still touch on their vulnerability. Songs like Run, Silent Cry, Scars, Lonely St. Other songs cover the emotions of the various stages of relationships. Songs like Taste, Sorry I love you, Limbo, Chill, Love Untold. Even Red Lights has depth as it deals with toxicity from obsession. Even Maniac has depth, it's an indictment on how we strive in society by living behind the facade of normality.
So like I said it depends on what one defines as substance. I just think we would be bored if they kept talking about the same issues and insecurities from pre-debut till now. Or if they only made tear-jerkers or only wrote depressing lyrics. I'm personally excited to discover where the substance lies in a new SKZ song. Will it be in the lyrics? Will in be in the subject matter? Will it be in the production? Will be in the wordplay?

I’m more of a fan of Stray Kids’ early music, their pre-debut album and 1st mini album are definitely my favourite. I rarely listen to their newer stuff. People always say they stopped listening to BTS when they “changed their style” (I have a friend that literally stopped being an army very early on like late 2013 or early 2014) but I feel this way with Stray Kids. BTS still sang about meaningful things to them while continuously evolving. Stray Kids were also evolving and getting better but their recent songs just feel like noise to me and as you said lacks substance.. I like some of them but definitely still a fan of their early stuff more.

As a StayArmy I feel like I hear this about both BTS and Stray Kids a lot. There are many commentors that talk about how their older work had more depth than their newer stuff. But in my opinion, for these types of groups that are so involved with every aspect of creating and producing their body of work, all of it is substance because it's a true reflection and depiction of who they are and where they currently are in life. When you go back to the very beginning coming up to today you see all of the experiences, circumstances, and situations that they have been through weaving together to create a beautiful body of work. Just like us, they have different priorities at various points in time, and this is showcased in their work. In the beginning they were more focused on their insecurities as newbies, then they were dealing with the frustrations of trying to prove themselves to naysaying adults as well as the voices in their heads. But then as they get older they got more confident and their lyrics reflect that growth. They've become bolder as they experiment with different sounds, more wordplay, different topics, different genres. Looking at some of their title tracks, it may seem as if there is no substance in the lyrics, but it's there in the production, or it's in the arrangement, or it's in the different vocal tones and rap flows etc. substance is everywhere.
