Mega-Trip Log #5: Seattle

I got to spend a few relaxing days in Seattle and that time means the world to me. But first, I had to work! Also I had gotten sick near the end of GDC so that was going on as well I guess? But yes, work!

The deadline was looming; I had a day to make an entire comic page, as well as a two-page poster companion, then send it all to the printer. Things were slow-going at first; I did my best, but inertia was really hard to overcome. By the evening, I still had a lot of work to do, but a friend was getting off of work - and since I hadn't seen her in a year and a half, I opted to hang out. And it was wonderful. Though it meant I had to push the deadline back a bit and work through the following day, I don't regret a second of it. Friends and good social contact are worth more to me than things.

I had indeed gotten slightly sick at that point, so the following day consisted of me sitting by a tissue box and finishing the comic book. Things went wrong, the layout took far longer than I thought, but by the end of the day the file was in the printer's hands and I was overcome with relief. I had done it. There was nothing left for me to do but recover and enjoy the remaining days I had in Seattle.

Once I was feeling better, I went out again with said friend to visit a part of Seattle I'd never seen before and basically have the most wonderful day I'd had in a long, long time. I had a cup of white coffee - called the Wizard's Kiss - and all other coffees now pale in comparison. My sweet tooth was in heaven and I need more of it, if I can only find out what it is and where to get it here in Montreal. We also went to a large video rental store absolutely filled to the brim with character, which is where the picture at the top comes from! I also got to see a Godzilla movie for the first time, and that was a treat. For me, this was an ideal day: exploring, making cool discoveries, and hanging out with dear friends in front of some sort of screen.

I also got to eat at some new places during this part of the trip! I finally went to Dick's, a fast food burger place, and had some amazing burgs and shakes. I had Lunchbox Labs burger and fried curds, which I guess I have to eat again now because they're amazing? My host Trace was also kind enough to get a cheesesteak from a food truck while I was recovering, and there was a great evening meal at a fine italian restaurant at some point, though I hardly remember it because I was so tired and sick at that point.

Thankfully I recovered enough to be functional when it was time to pack up, retrieve the comics (which turned out great), leave Trace's space-age apartment, and head onward to Boston. I had thankfully taken this opportunity to wash most of my clothes and basically reset my wardrobe, and it was not a moment too soon. Rearmed, recharged, and ready for more adventure, we took the redeye to the east coast!

Next up was PAX East, and that is a mountain of a tale - which I can't wait to share with you in my next post!
