November Preview IV: Even Newer Thatch Roofs and DTRPG LInks Emailed

First, I emailed links to the october patreon from Drive Through RPG. This will give everyone a secondary archival way to get files. I did a short test for 30 folks at the start of the month and it seemed okay, this is my first time sending it to 450+ plus people so it is always a little nerve racking, hopefully it went well.

Second, I have decided to push back a couple small things to December and get this more aggressive thatch out for November, so there will be 2 more thatch roof variations for each size: chimney for the new shacks and no chimney for older models. I posted some WIP test prints, I think one of them ended up being a final design. These are very bold and we think will look great on the table, we hope everyone is as excited about these as we are. Thanks for looking.

Got some 4 coat speed paints drying on 5 styles. One of the thick thatches printed above was scaled back about 40% and I do like it better with the paint on it than the bolder one. Anyways I think that last one has some potential with a more thoughtful layout and getting rid of pattern tiling. I'll add the paints versions in the morning .

I posted another picture with a small, long strand that I test printed last night. This is the one tested out okay. If you've seen something you like you can point me in the direction.

...Sigh...yes, the latest straw does look like animal hides. You are far more artistically talented than myself, but I fear I may never agree with your style choices.

Brent Winters

Thanks David:)

I hear you, I certainly wasn't intending to only offer the one style. I went ahead and added an image up top, take a look and tell me what you think. Anyways I basically combined the 2 concepts and looked a bit at how infinite dimensions did there thatch. This one tilts a little animal hide -ish but I like it more than slanting doughy or sponge-like

To me, it doesn't look like clumps. It looks like exaggerated straw thickness and makes the model appear cartoony or anime, which is a style, but not one I use. If that's the only straw choice you end up offering, I won't use it. There's many models on the web that do straw in a more moderate way that still have texture. Have you taken the time to paint and dry brush any of your prototypes? Paint your base darker then dry brush the lighter color and you'll be surprised how little texture is required to make it look 3D, but I'm sure you know that. We may just have different style preferences. That said, I'm a big fan of your modular approach, which we need more of in fantasy models.

Brent Winters

I dig the thatched look, man.

David Dickson

Alright, it looks to be in proper order now:) Let me know if there is still an issue, that upload is already patched

In my mind I think of the strands as being clumps of thatch as they seem to typically br tied together in bunches, maybe looking at it that way helps. If you are looking at each strand as a blade of grass then that would certainly seem like a lot.

Thanks Brent, yes it is both those things. The thatch is intentionally overstated as many things are at 28mm. I have a few different sizes, I'll have to see what they look like painted and photographed, but my impression at this point, after many test prints, is that smaller is not better.

Thanks Arman:)

Thanks Alex

No it's cool, I'm re-uploading it now. I assume I did something wrong or the product page glitched, anyways i'll have the main DL back up up soon on DTRPG

Thatch seems far too thick and out of scale.

Brent Winters

The new thatch design is a huge upgrade for the table. They look amazing! Can't wait to print and paint some up.

GameNight

Sorry, n/m. I missed that the main link was below in these posts. It was just confusing only seeing the patch on DTRPG.

David Dickson

Yeah, I noticed that too.

GameNight

Trying to download on Drivethru and it only seems to have the patch for the bottom. Not the actual fort. Am I missing something?

David Dickson

Looks great!!

Arman

I like the deeper thatch look. Nice work. I'll be printing some more ruins here shortly! ;)

Thanks Heath:)

Love this!
